We will take a slightly longer and more enjoyable route that crosses I-84 at 53rd Ave and is relatively flat. We will ride at an easy pace and get to Alberta Park around 5:30.

This is the official ride that kicks off the festivities every year. Volunteers will be selling Pedalpalooza BIKE SUMMER merch from 5:30pm to 6:15pm at the basketball courts. If you ordered merch online by May 14th, your order will be waiting for you at the park. If you haven't ordered merch, yet, you can order online now (shop.rendered.co/pedalpalooza) and it'll be ready on June 14th. We will have a limited amount of pennants, stickers, and totes for sale at the park, as well as shirts for you to try on before you buy online. Ride leaders who submitted their ride by May 14th can pick up a complimentary Ride Leader pennant - first come, first served. We'll have volunteers on site to help affix pennants to bikes. The first Friday of every June is National Donut Day! What better way to kick off the summer of Pedalpalooza?! Join Bill, your ride leader and fellow donut lover, for a tour of a variety of Portland donut shops. In the interest of time and keeping the route as low traffic as possible, our donut exploration will be confined to the east side. This ride is meant to be fun. We'll cruise at a relatively casual 12 to 14 MPH pace and talk about donuts the entire time (or anything else, really). :) Some of this ride will take place with limited bike lane spacing. Please ride single file when appropriate and follow ride leader requests. This means we will also yield to traffic at some intersections where some experienced riders might be accustomed to riding on through. Experienced riders are welcomed/encouraged to assist the ride leader to shepherd the group through any busy or high traffic intersections. We will plan to spend 10 to 20 minutes per stop, but that can be more or less depending on the group's interest in that stop and/or wait periods to get donuts. This ride could typically be finished in about an hour or so, but given the number of stops and the number of donuts we absolutely MUST consume, I'm estimating 2.5 to 3 hours for the full ride., depending on the pace of the group and time at each stop. The group is welcome to agree to skip stops, as well. Noted below, if you want the quick and easy version of this ride, it is a quick return to the start if you head back after stop #3. So we’re going to go full moon on the full moon and protest…………………. For the rest of this year all of our nakedrides (30+) will protest this travesty of government prioritizing profit over the safety of our peoples and land…………………. Will this change this paradigm that endemically oppresses us all?………………… Let’s be real. Did you know that on the night of the full moon, sunset is usually right before the moon rise? Let's hit up a spot where we can watch both! Stock up on snacks and libations before meeting up, then depart on an under 5 mile to our mystery destination. Ride not a loop. Lights, layers, and a picnic blanket are good ideas. Extra credit if you bring a telescope or good binoculars to observe the moon. Please note: THERE IS NO STORE STOP. There is also a market near where we end, but the ride will not stop there. We'll redirect our cycling gaze north to the understated charm and chill of Vancouver for a ride to Lacamas lake. The route for this right might be tweaked somewhat over the coming weeks, but the general outline is this. Following the Columbia east we will hit up Camas Market and Bakery for some fresh (local) fruit before riding along the far side of the lake. A few roads to be navigated between there and some of Vancouver's many trails will bring us back to where we started for a visit to one of the area's great local bike co-ops. We will meet at Microcosm Publishing (2752 N WIlliams) at noon and take a meandering path, stopping at various bookstores in NE and North Portland, until we arrive at Revolutions Bookshop in St. Johns around 4pm. This will be a leisurely-paced ride, with plenty of stops.

**Note: Trailers that are too long for a fairly tight switchback ramp (the one at Hollywood transit center) or too heavy to lift up one curb aren’t going to be ideal for this one.** We’ll meet at Doe Donuts where you can get some vegan donuts, ice cream, or beverages. The ride will be 4-5 miles with a stop at Coe Circle before ending back at Doe Donuts for post-ride refreshments. We’ll bring some small aloe plants to share. We can play a little tic-tac-toe. It would be cool if anyone brought an oboe to play. Feel free to tiptoe during the ride. This is a Vegan Bike Club PDX ride. Everyone is welcome, but please keep things vegan on the ride.

This is a free, drop-in, learning environment, overseen by a bicycle instructor. Participants will ride around a car-free block, practicing beginner bike skills. We’ll practice moving forward, braking, turning, shifting, signaling your intention to turn, checking over your shoulder to ensure it’s safe to turn, and moving confidently through intersections. We’ll practice on a wide, safe street that is closed to cars. This is for people new to cycling. I’ll get you started, and get you ready for Pedalpalooza rides! I'll have a table on Bond Ave, wearing a "BikeLoud" shirt. Some folks will come at the start time, and progressively go through practice drills until the end. If you can't arrive at the start time, drop in any time during this event, and stay for as long as you'd like to learn. Some folks only have ~20 minutes of questions or needs, so come anytime during this event. The street is large enough that numerous participants can work on their own skills at their own pace. I’ll assess each person to work on the skills they specifically need. Even if you're not interested in riding, come if you have questions about how to bike around town. I’m a certified bicycling traffic instructor, who has been teaching for a decade. These "parking lot drills"come from the national curriculum, and have taught thousands of people. This is for ages 16+. I can also teach ages 9-15 if parents stay and work with their kids. Requirements: Bring a helmet. Know how to balance on a bike and move forward a bit, even if you're unsteady. Bring your own bicycle, or there's a Biketown station on this block that rents bikes (via the Lyft app).

Let's ride together to see an awesome photography show in a derelict house in north Portland! There might even be an asteroid pinata... Approximately 66 million years ago, a large asteroid 6.21 miles (10 km) in diameter crashed into the Yucatán Peninsula, leaving a giant crater near the modern-day town of Chicxulub, Mexico. The aftermath of the impact changed the trajectory of life on Earth forever. This event ended the reign of the dinosaurs in a cataclysm that erupted in forest fires, earthquakes, and a deluge of dust and ash that blocked the sun, creating a sudden drop in surface temperature that persisted for a decade or longer. While tragic for what was then the natural order, the seeds of renewal were sown by the asteroid itself. Recent scientific inquiry has indicated that the asteroid induced a “vast subsurface hydrothermal system that became an oasis for the recovery of life.”* In ultimate destruction, renewal. In endings, new beginnings. In darkness, a tiny pinprick of light. On a much smaller scale, we at Rubus Discolor Project are approaching our own extinction event. After four years and seven shows, we have sold the house, and in the coming months it will be deconstructed, taken apart piece by piece, window by window, and brick by brick. Following the rules of urban succession, an apartment complex will take its place. The end of the current phase of RDP is bittersweet as most meaningful change is. For this last show, fourteen photographers contributed images that symbolize Chicxulub. Brooklyn-based C.C., our fifteenth artist, shared an unpublished zine titled, It Was Good, in which they rewrote the first chapter of Genesis redacting any mention of God, so that the world creates itself. Along the walls of the house, wheat pasted photographs are interspersed with the atheistic creation myth. A neglected aquarium with a single floating fish, a volcano mid-eruption, a file cabinet bearing the words “disaster plan in here”. Lying flat on a table are Chicxulub-inspired gouache paintings by artist and curator, Leslie Hickey. Photographs have arrived from near and far: The USA, Peru, Norway, England, Germany, Spain, Italy, Egypt, India, and somewhere along the Mediterranean. All are wheat pasted to the walls of the house and will remain there for as long as the house stands.

Chat with other cyclotourists about bike touring/camping/packing plans. And nerd out over camping stove setups and impress everyone with the feast you’ll craft! Each movie location will be set with the intention to match the theme and tone of the movie. The screen will be at Poets Beach on June 7th. Throughout their travels and adventures, one theme has emerged -- the kindness of people. -MARK MORICAL, The Bulletin. Explorers Kristen and Ville Jokinen met and fell in love while scuba diving in Vietnam. Ville then left his native Finland to join Kristen in Oregon and together they embarked on a life-changing two-year cycling adventure covering 18,000 miles from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, to Ushuaia, Argentina. Despite never having cycled further than around the block, they persevered unrelenting, punishing rain and wind, altitude sickness, dog attacks, bike accidents, and countless flat tires to cycle between the ends of the earth. Kristen and Ville believe that kindness connects us to our shared humanity. They held babies, attended quinceaneras, drank pulque, played soccer, and visited schools. People in Mexico, Central America, and South America invited them into their hearts and homes, allowed them to camp in their fields and farms, and acted as personal tour guides. Kristen and Ville are love on wheels, and who doesn't need a little more love in their lives?

I was a bit bummed to not see rides on Friday morning when I am off... so be the change you want in the world. I might post this up as a weekly event all summer long, but the route might change to not be too repetitive.. This includes purposefully hilly routes but with some decent breaks between to recover and replenish. Happy Pride Month! Let’s celebrate one another. Join us Friday, June 9, for a ride that we’re calling Keep Portland Queer’d. All LGBTQ+ folks and allies are welcome. Our route starts at Wilshire Park (NE35th and Skidmore, near the bathrooms) and meanders through Northeast and Southeast Portland. End point is along the Eastbank Esplanade. If we time it right, we can catch the sunset. Ride length is about 10 miles. Store stop/ice cream stop about halfway through. We have a first-time ride leader for this ride, too. Good stuff! There’s no one way to be queer, and so there’s no one way to show up. Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and brings you joy. Pride flags optional. Find your bike Every Friday Night. We meet at Ladds circle, in the circle. If it is raining, head down to the covered area of Abernethy Elementary School. Ride slowly meets at 7 pm and departs roughly at 7:45/8ish pm. An honorary 3 minutes of Ladd laps (Ding Ding Ride/Ladd500) and then we send it. Sometimes we have guest ride leaders. Friday Night Rides are different every time. Sometimes we go to other rides happening around town during the summer. End of ride fires/good vibes/respect/no jerks/ We are a community. Join the Bureau of Environmental Services for a nature themed ride and scavenger hunt in Northeast Portland! Riders will get a chance to discover neighborhood nature patches, identify native plants and pollinators, and learn about our Willamette Watershed. We will meet in the Boise neighborhood and stop at local parks and community spaces. Participants are encouraged to fill out their scavenger hunt score card during tour stops. Small prizes awarded! Oregon passed the "Idaho Stop Law" in 2019, meaning that people riding bicycles can roll slowly though a stop sign, or a red light, if there is no conflicting traffic. This is a boon to actually getting somewhere on a bike without undo delay. Many people helped get this legislation passed, but instrumental were * Jason Meggs, who advocated and researched it from 1998 to 2015, and * Bjorn Warloe, of Portland, who worked hard to get it passed in Oregon. Ladd Circle police stop sign stings were Bjorn's main impetus to get the law passed. And the police busting of Portland Critical Mass rides around stop sign laws in the late 1990s were Jason's impetus to begin his work. Pedalin' Puppeteers invites families and puppet lovers to join a social group ride like no other. Begin by crafting your very own puppets, then hop on your bikes for an exciting ride alongside your newfound puppet companions. Enjoy the scenery as we loop through Laurelhurst a few times and back while soaking in8 the joy of your new creation! The ride ends with a puppet show, where the characters come alive and enchant both young and old alike. Come blend your love for cycling with the wonder of puppetry. The ride leader will simply be facilitating the space. There will not be a "class" on how to build a puppet. Show up and make whatever your heart calls! Dont wanna make puppets? Help decorate the puppet theatre!!! Tag @pedalpalooza to show off your new puppets! You are HIGHLY encouraged to bring your own materials specifically bring your own super glue, tacky glue, fabric glue, fabric tape, scissors, or any materials that you need in order to decorate your own puppet!!!! I'll be heading out at 6:00, and waiting for stragglers at the Blumenhauer bridge till 6:30. It should be a lovely evening ride and beautiful night on the beach. Bike lights for safety if we don't get there by dark...(secret bluffs stop). Nearest trimet service back to Portland after dusk is the expo center MAX. There's a morning commuter bus (11 - Rivergate Marine Drive) back to St John's 5-7am, if you don't wanna pedal all the way back. Supply stop at "the cut" Freddie's - near the university. Carry light till then. If somebody wanted to bring a speaker to play music, it wouldn't hurt my feelings.

We're going to get lucky! Meet up face to face at Kenilworth Park in SE at 7:00, jam out to some Daft Punk deep cuts, and ride out at 7:30. Then we'll get harder, better, faster, stronger as we join up with the LCD Soundsystem ride at another Portland park. We'll then ride out one more time to a final end spot where we will all lose ourselves to dance with a live DJ. Bring a Soundboks to link up but please respect the playlist and avoid playing other music or having multiple speakers clash when possible.

Just can't get enough 80s and New Wave music? Join us on a casual ride through North and Northeast Portland starting at Woodlawn Park and ending at Tough Luck. All are welcome. This ride is essentially an 11-mile loop with 1 stop in the middle. We will be blasting all the best synth and new wave hits along the ride. Riders are strongly encouraged to come dressed for the 80s. The ride will end at Tough Luck on NE Dekum. This is where those under 21 will have to say goodbye.
