Riding to the airport is easy and fun. Come learn one of the easy routes in a low stress situation. There are lots of good reasons to ride to the airport. From most of NE Portland it is comparable in time to driving, and much faster than MAX. Parking is safe and free. You get a nice exercise buzz before you are confined to an airplane seat for a couple hours. Parking is free. And, coming home, you just saunter out of the terminal, mount your steed, and bam! You're back on the Bikeways of Portland, feeling good, while your seatmates are waiting for MAX or taking a shuttle to long term parking. The big problem with riding to the airport is navigation -- there are a couple routes between Lombard St and the airport. Unfortunately, all of the routes have a few issues. And none have signage. You don't want to be semi-lost in this area when you're in pressed for time. For our route today, we'll head out the Skidmore/Going bikeway system, go north on the 82nd Ave of Roses in the low traffic/wide shoulder section north of Alberta St (with *actual* *rose* *bushes*!!!), and check out both of the bike paths that go to the airport from 82nd. It's reasonable easy navigation, and reasonably comfortable. We'll also visit both of the long-term bicycle parking areas. After riding it for fun, you'll be ready to do it when you need to catch a plane. Return is by bike or by MAX, your choice. (It's a one way trip for me, as I'll be locking my bike and flying away!)
