The Leif Erikson Trail is one of Portland's secret summer gems. 12 miles of bicycling on a shaded, north-facing forest road. It's a great place to be naked if you want cool shady conditions, and few onlookers. This is one of the nicest rides in all of Portland. Particularly in July, as it is nice if it's hot, average, cool, or even drizzly. It's a steep climb up to Thurmon St to get to the trailhead, but from the start location for 12 miles to Germantown Road it's only moderately hilly, as the road mostly follows the contour lines. There is a proposal to cut down a large swath of forest for a new powerline corridor. We'll bring body paint for protest slogans on our bodies, and we'll be stopping to enjoy the beautiful section of forest that is slated for clearcutting. Packed gravel with rocks. It can be done on road bikes, but more comfortable with wider tires. Notes: If the forecast is for steady rain or other unpleasant weather for nakedness, we may cancel the ride. Cancellations will be posted by 11:59 pm the night before the night before the ride. We are also doing a 8:00 am ride, an 11:00 ride, a 6:00 pm ride and 8:30 pm naked rides, check the shift2bikes calendar for details! Our other upcoming rides are: July 25, All Day Naked Ride (including Morning, Sunny, Pearl, Fig Leif and St Johns) Aug 8, Sunny Naked Ride Aug 23, Waxing Gibbous Naked Ride See shift2bikes calendar for details.
