We will ride to the Bicycle Film Fest through the part of the city that has been most filmed (other than the Witch's Castle!), the central east side and the Willamette River. We'll stop at several movie film locations and give up some of our secret film lore we have garnered while running tours and chatting with film types in the city. About Bicycle Film Festival's 2026 program: A moving and diverse collection of international short films explores the bicycle as a symbol of freedom in everyday life, taking viewers from the bustling streets of Lisbon to Palestine, to Portland, China’s markets, South Africa’s dynamic neighborhoods, and the remote mountains of Kyrgyzstan. PROGRAM 1, 6:30 p.m. features stories about: - The Gaza Sunbirds, founded in 2020 to put the power of the bicycle in the hands of people with disabilities. They are a network of athletes, professionals, and volunteers turning resilience into international representation, global advocacy, and lifesaving aid. They open pathways for amputated and otherwise disabled Palestinians to rehabilitate through sport, train, compete, and champion our collective cause. When Israel’s genocide erupted in October 2023, their riders pivoted from racing to aid, using the same bikes to reach bomb-scarred neighbourhoods with food, medicine, and hope. - An exquisite cinematic exploration of Ciclopes, a Lisbon initiative promoting youth mobility through bicycles. - Khaltsha Cycling Academy empowers young women to defy societal norms, find freedom, and dream beyond the limits of their neighborhood. - A journey through Kyrgystan long after the road has ended. - Guo Jie, one of the estimated 277 million rural migrant workers in China, piles as much styrofoam on her bike as possible to resell at a market. - And more! Program 2, 8:30pm - stories about: - A look into the life of a lifelong bicycle rider from racing BMX to riding the streets of New York City. - Nic overdoes it during a night out and is left to put the pieces together in the morning, including finding his bicycle. - An addicted biker runs out of cigarettes. He joins the race to get more, but has to accept help from some peculiar people in the audience to stay in the competition. - A key figure in Salt Lake's fixed gear community, her motivations for riding, and how the community has shaped her self-expression. - A meditation on presence in the city through the eyes of a professional BMX biker Chad Douglas. - Women, children and non-binary cyclists reclaim the streets of Mexico City against road rage and sexual violence, revindicating riding bicycles as a way of life, not a way to die. -And more! https://btt.boldtypetickets.com/events/183692857/bicycle-film-festival-portland Tickets to the festival can be purchased above
