Spring is just around the bend with longer days, better weather, and later sunsets. Let's celebrate making it through another dark winter by gathering in community to take a bike ride through the east side of Portland to admire the warm glow of neon. We'll start out at the Jim Dandy Drive-In across from the Parkrose/Sumner Transit Center, consider grabbing dinner or a milkshake before the ride. This is pretty far out,, so consider taking the MAX i it makes sense for you. On the ride we will wind our way to finish at Hollywood Theater's marvelous marquee, passing by some other great examples of neon signage for theaters, restaurants and even churches. Because of neon's main purpose, advertising to fast moving cars, many of the best signs are on car-centric streets like Stark & 122nd that we don't often ride, this is a great opportunity to get out as a group to enjoy the view. This will be a different route than previous ride to see a new set of signs. The route is 21 Miles long and is not a loop but starts and stops near MAX Red Line stations. The ride will be moderately paced (10 miles per hour) with a no-drop mentality. There will be a store stop about 10 miles into the ride at a Fred Meyer. Instagram: @akc.milian
