Are you inspired, hopeful, angry, committed, dubious, or unsure about the safety of Portland's streets? Then this ride is for you! Meet at 7:45 am on SE Taylor at the west side of Cesar E Chavez, and leave at 8 am SHARP to bike to City Hall for the 8:30 City celebration of bicycling and walking. As bicyclists, we will celebrate with PURPOSE, because for years, we've known we can't get to Vision Zero if our city leaders have zero vision. Note that our meeting point is adjacent to the bus stop where a driver killed Jeanie Diaz in July 2023. This intersection has become even MORE dangerous in the nearly two years since Diaz's death, indicating that Portland has been moving in the wrong direction. But we've elected a new city council, and we must turn out to support the Council members who are working for safer streets, and remind the rest of Council that Portland, or any city, only thrives if it centers human well being. The official city celebration info is here: https://www.portland.gov/council/districts/3/tiffany-koyama-lane/events/2025/5/19/walk-bike-school-work-week-celebration Meet us at City Hall if you can't make the ride. You can also sign up to testify at City Council. Duration: 30 minutes to ride, another hour to attend the rally. More if you stay for City Council meeting.
