10:30 POLO, 2PM ALLEYCAT, 7PM CIRCUIT RACE
Here-yee! Here-yee! Its C.S.O number THREEE!! Portland's Official unofficial cargo bike racing event returns for another year of nail-biting, load-hauling, stuff-carrying action. Three separate events throughout the day, participate in some - spectate for others - time enough for a nap in between! Those brave cargo comrades who race & endure the all-day long onslaught on cargotastic challenges may find themselves handsomely rewarded!! Put your skills as a cargo bike expert to test or come watch the most skilled sh*t-movers in town go head-to-head in various challenges spanning dawn til dusk! THRILLS! SPILLS! PRIZES!! GOOD VIBES!! CARGOOO!!! Here's whats happening........ CARGO POLO - 10:30am - 12:00pm @ Alberta Park - Players should form pairs of one "pilot" and one "malleteer" riding on one full-size cargo bike. Teams of 4 go head-to-head, with 2 bikes per team and 2 players per bike! One steers & pedals, the other handles the mallet. Mallets and balls will be provided. Full-size cargo bikes (that can carry an adult human passenger) are welcome & needed!! 4-QUADRANT SCARGOVENGER HUNT - 2:00pm @ 7th & Sandy Blvd - A cargo-oriented alleycat style scavenger hunt in a format that welcomes all kinds of bicycles. Racers should come ready to carry a minimum of 20lbs of cargo - but more definitely wouldn't hurt! Any kind of bike and/or cargo vessel will do: from a rack on a standard bicycle to a full blown long-john cargo bike may be enough (depending on your chosen path!) Race categories and checkpoints are intended to accommodate various styles of bikes and levels of dedication, involvement, and/or athleticism - but to win will not be for the faint of heart! On race-day participants will choose one of the following categories: - POINTS: Visit checkpoints gathering as many points as possible by completing tasks and gathering various cargo. Anyone on any bike could race this category, but winning will take skill and legs! - SPEED: Finish the minimum required checkpoints as fast as possible. First one to the finish wins the 'Speed' category. Best suited for fast non-cargo bikes, messenger style: a wide tire road bike with a rack or backpack for example. Class 3 eBikes are prohibited from racing this category, and Class 1 eBikes will receive a time penalty. - SPOINTS: Gather as many points as fast as possible, intended for the most daring racers... those who got that haulin' dawg in 'em. Best suited for full-size cargos, eBikes, and seasoned cargolympians willing to risk it all for the bisquik. SECRET CARGO CIRCUIT RACE - 7:00pm @ Capitalism (the statue) - Exactly what it sounds like. A rain friendly, spectator-friendly secret guerrilla style cargo bike race. Go fast in circles, stop and pickup cargo, go fast while carrying things, stop and unload cargo, go fast in circles again! Meet at 7 and we'll ride to the 'course' as a group. Be nice to security guards and they'll probably let us stay :) NO RACE SUPPORT OR FIRST AID! NO JERKS OR WEIRDOS ALLOWED! ONLY FUN AND CARGO BIKES ! ! ! ! ! !! ! !
