UPDATE: This my rescheduled ride from July 26, my 50th birthday. HERE'S THE ORIGINAL RIDE INFORMATION: It's my 50th time around the sun and I'm celebrating by inviting you, yes YOU, to ride a fun 50-mile route all over Portland. Let's celebrate all of the birthdays in the only proper month for a birthday: July. It's a mixture of my SE Technically Singletrack route with points north into St Johns and southwest into the hills. Expect to ride on footpaths, nonpaved streets and alleys, various rights of way, probably a volcano, and a splash of shenaniganerous tomfoolery. There may be a peacock or a donkey, possibly a great blue heron or bald eagle (or crows nipping at bald eagles mid-flight!). We'll do some snack stops, bathroom breaks, probably stop for photos. This is the third year I'm doing this ride and for this year I'm going bigger. I had the idea for the technically singletrack ride a few years ago during pandemic lockdowns. I was riding my bike along the path next to the Springwater when I joked to myself that I was technically riding singletrack. I expanded on the idea and realized I could make a bike route out of it. While everyone is welcome, keep in mind this may be challenging for some riders. This is a sober, no-drop ride that's neither a race nor a party ride. Leave your attitude problems and negativity at home. This is a fun ride celebrating life, community and taking the long way to nowhere via the worst route possible. It's a way to see parts of Portland where you may not be familiar or maybe link together a better way of going somewhere familiar. Ideally, I'd love everyone to make their own technically singletrack route here or elsewhere; no rules, just community and fun. Here is the route in Ride with GPS https://ridewithgps.com/routes/45281757 (Obviously I encourage single speed and/or fixed gears) If you have questions, email me at mcgloin at mac dot com.
