The Shift website is entirely volunteer operated! Come out for a social ride and stay for a beer at a watering hole near the start point and learn about our tech stack and how you can contribute & help us connect Portland area bike funthusiasts on the web and beyond. We’ll meet at Bike Happy Hour at 5:30pm and ride at 6:00pm. (Come early and we’ll have a bit of trivia about the calendar. Impress your friends and win a prize!) We’ll head out on a social-paced ride, talk about the tech behind the site, and end at a location for food/drinks and more tech talk. Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/47586133 Technical stuff: This spring we overhauled the back end of the site, which is now written in Node.js (previously, PHP). The front end is a combination of static HTML/CSS templates plus some Javascript for the calendar pages. It also uses a MySQL database and some other bits for infrastructure/admin. (We'll go more into technical details at the ride and post-ride meetup.) If you have any interest or ability in contributing to any part of it, we'd love to have you! Skills like design, documentation, etc also welcome. The end location will have wifi, so bring your laptop if you want to get it running locally on your device.
