Aka "We the Treeple" Aka "Shady Characters" Aka "This will be ENTertaining" BACKGROUND Remember 2021, when we had the record breaking heat dome here in Portland? Remember how June 2023, globally, had the hottest June on record? Have you heard of the Trees In the Curb Zone Pilot Project; the Portland Clean Energy Fund? Have you noticed how much cooler it is when in the shade of a tree or in a shady neighborhood? Have you ever hugged a tree? If you want to join the climate justice movement with joy, join the us as we ride from Lents to Laurelhurst, noticing differences in tree canopy by neighborhood. Hosted by the 350PDX Forest Defense Team. LOGISTICS Who: Family friendly BUT kiddos joining should be able to keep up on their own or could join via attached child seat or trailer. What: 7ish mile bike ride, so plan to ride for about 60min. We will have two pauses along the way, one to look at the Trees In the Curb Zone project, and another for water break. We will have snacks, conversation, and information and actions you can take for climate justice in Portland at the end at Laurelhurst park in Picnic Area A. When: Wednesday, 7/17/24, meet up at 5:45pm. Where: Meet at SE corner of Lents Park and ride to Laurelhurst park picnic area A, where we’ll end with an (optional) 350PDX Action Night. PLEASE NOTE that this route is a one-way so you will need to plan a way home! Why: For a more equitable, beautiful, climate change resilient Portland for ALL! How: With bikes and joy for our trees!
