Meet at 2:30, ride about 3.
So many great rides this summer & in all of the years I have done Pedalpalooza. I have not led a ride all summer for lack of a solid plan - endless thanks to all who made it happen. The summer is not over yet and seeing this open day I felt called to put up... something. A low key ramble and celebration of the day & living. I will arrive, invariably dazed & surprised to have made it through this past year - another half-decade - and will attempt to share a little of what I most appreciate in life - riding bikes, the peaceful water side, good food, the endless variety of interesting music in this world... A bit of picnic time is probable & I would suggest to visit one of the nearby farmers markets that end at 2 before - as I intend to, though a provision stop is probably inevitable at some point too. Possibly even picnic before ride dunno - I'd like to do more than a few stops including some most will not have seen before... We will stay cool at some hidden river/creek sides and travel a few hopefully interesting routes. Nothing too challenging though small portions of hills or gravel is always a possibility. Probably I will not have any larger soundsystem on this ride as repairs are needed. UE Boom / Megaboom / Hyperboom speakers will be used, so any additional units are appreciated. These will hopefully suffice for the kinds of lively but flowing music that I hope to play at stops - which does not intrude but embellishes the experience, which does not demand attention but rewards it... I cannot promise to have a great, refined and also surprising music selection. Probably I won't at this point - I'll just have a bit of my music exploration & hope to keep things going as best suits the day. These speakers do not really work for wireless broadcast while riding though unfortunately - the signal breaks up. So if the ride size is large enough it is ok to play some music in a somewhat similar spirit as long as you are spaced well apart. This is 'ride of chaos', in the sense of a series of afterpalooza rides I did one year under that title. Basically, I have not settled on a plan before posting the ride, though that does stress me more than a little. I will most likely have a decent idea ready in time though, yes. Maybe not too detailed though - hopefully some improvisation and collaboration can occur. Open ended but I'd like to take it to the sunset at least. Well I put off posting this for a week & might have very little plan at all but am determined to head to the park and anyone who wishes to enjoy the day in some semblance of my fashion, I'll be glad to see you. Good times will be had. Updates: I have by now a general framework in mind which I'll probably stick to. The first stretch will have plenty gravel - to help wake me up perhaps. If you do not wish to ride any gravel ask me and I'll let you know where that portion ends. I have never led a ride in 'daytime' & it is an important challenge of sorts for me but I'm going to add a secondary ride post for the later perhaps more adventurous part. I am a little embarrassed that my music offering is likely still to lean significantly on 'electronic music' but it will be a bit out of my most typical mode & I still got some time to add any worthy curveballs in there... hoping to stick close to the 2:30/3 timeline. Hammocks - yes - might be time enough for that at 1 or 2 stops. Ok plenty enough words.
