Not a ride
Variable, announced every Thursday, TBA
Brian McGloin
Sat, Aug 16, 2025, 9:00 AM
Starts at about 9, people roll in and out through around 11
We meet at a different park in Portland every Saturday all year morning at about 9 to talk about home repair, travel plans, obscure board games, insects, etymology and sometimes bikes. Coffee Outside is often a meeting or starting point for adventures, day rides, group food cart rides or other outings. Bring a means to make coffee or some sort of coffee-adjacent beverage, or not. Instant chai? Perfect. A canned coffee beverage from the bodega? Legit. A special small batch blend of beans roasted in your neighborhood roastery that you measure by weight (portable scale, naturally) hand-grind in your titanium grinder before making a slow pour-over using hand-made paper filters and perfect temperature water? Sure, go for it. Baked goods are always appreciated but not at all required. Uniform? Nope. Fancy bike? Nope. Racing or ultra bikepacking chops? Nope. We enthusiastically welcome new faces and have no barrier to entry other than being your authentic self and leaving any bad/aggro attitudes at home. We post the location every Thursday on the PDX Coffee Outside website, which our friend Chris updates, and our Instagram account.

Sat, Aug 16, 2025, 9:45 AM
Meet at 9:45am, ride at 10am
Ride is a loop
The August monthly ride is a loop ride that is classified as moderate to difficult. This ride will use all gears and brakes. The ride will traverse dirt trails, steep hills, and narrow paths, occasionally near traffic. The ride begins at Milwaukie Bay Park and heads north to the Sellwood Bridge. After crossing the bridge cyclists will ascend 500 ft up the cemetery switchbacks, take a break, and go on to Lewis & Clark College, Tyron Creek State Natural Area, and Lake Oswego. Eventually arriving in Gladstone for a well deserved lunch at the Arlington Taphouse and Food Carts before returning to Milwaukie. Total mileage back to downtown Milwaukie is around 25 miles. This ride, although very challenging, is going to be a thrill because of the challenges and the environment you encounter. The ride will put a huge smile on your face!!! That being said, make sure to bring extra hydration, snacks, and a bike repair kit(tire). Warning: The ride is challenging and NOT RECOMMENDED for INEXPERIENCED riders and those riders with physical limitations.

You’ve heard of the Dead Freeways Ride exploring the Portland freeways we’ve never built or removed entirely, but what about all the freeways that did get built? Did you know that the majority of Portland-area freeways are legally open to bikes and non-motorized vehicles? Did you know that Oregon State Parks were originally developed as a branch of the Oregon State Highway Department thanks to the same declaration that preserved public ownership of our Pacific beaches? A representative from the Bureau of John Russell will be on hand to familiarize everyone with the intricacies of OAR 734-20-0045: Prohibition of Non-Motorized Vehicles on Freeways. He’ll show you the ropes, having ridden every mile of freeway in Western Oregon himself. With over 50,000 miles of cycling experience, and thousands of miles of unsupported bike touring, he will also show everyone the ropes of bike touring and camping, so please come prepared with hammocks, tents, sleeping bags, and anything else you need for an enjoyable night outdoors at LL Stub Stewart State Park. There may be an attempt to provide a support vehicle to carry gear for those with limited carrying capacity, but support is not guaranteed. Please bring approximately $20 cash to cover camping fees, MAX fare, food, and firewood, etc. but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Meet at 11, ride at 11:30 am. We’ll be starting in SW Portland at the Goose Hollow MAX Station (SW 18th & Jefferson). For the main portion of the ride, we'll travel on over 20 miles of wide shoulders in a nearly straight line along US 26, originally planned as the "Wolf Creek Highway" and more commonly known today as the Sunset Highway. After a supply stop in Banks, we'll enjoy a much quieter afternoon along the car-free Banks Vernonia Trail before making camp at two reserved hike-in camp sites at L.L. "Stub" Stewart State Park, for a total of ~35 miles on Saturday. On Sunday, we will break camp (1 PM checkout) and meander up to 30 miles back to the MAX Blue line in Hillsboro through scenic rural Washington County. In total, the ride will be an approximately 65 miles long over two 30- to 35-mile days. While the route does not loop, we will connect to the MAX on each end, so please bring appropriate fare unless you want to bike the whole way home. For those of you who would prefer to ride on your own and meet us along the way or at camp, an approximate route is posted below. Please do not drive to the campground without coordinating beforehand, as parking may be limited at costs $10/night. Camping is limited to ten people, so please RSVP if possible: https://www.facebook.com/events/2145896042589896/ Come have fun and ride the roads you never thought you could! Portland: Neighbors Welcome + BikeLoud PDX + Strong Towns PDX
Sat, Aug 16, 2025, 1:00 PM
Meet at 1:00pm, ride at 1:30pm
End location: Rainbow Road (Ankeny & 28th plaza)
Meet at 1PM roll at 1:30PM. Ride will end at the Rainbow Road public plaza on Ankeny and 28th so we can eat and chat! Our vision is simple: it should be legal for any residential lot from roughly 12th to 60th, Fremont to Powell, to contribute to a thriving, mixed-income, mixed-use fabric of urban neighborhoods by allowing street-scale apartment buildings. Portland: Neighbors Welcome has been campaigning to make this a reality, and we hit a huge milestone a few weeks ago: Portland's Bureau of Planning and Sustainability has released the results of their Inner Eastside Infrastructure Study, which examined how the current infrastructure could handle to opening up these neighborhoods to more neighbors! Our third annual Inner Eastside for All ride will take us on a tour though the study area as we talk about the results and envision what the future of Portland's Inner Eastside can look like! Our wonderful friends at Strong Towns PDX and BikeLoud will join us to talk about the fiscal wisdom of siting new housing where we already have developed infrastructure, and why allowing more people to live in our most bike friendly neighborhoods is an essential part of meeting our transportation goals! Ride will be ~5 miles, slow pace and no drop. Kids are very welcome but the content will be aimed towards adults.

Pink bikes, pink dresses, pink button downs, pink cheeks, pink flowers, pink pedals, pink squeaky pigs on your handlebars: whatever you love that’s pink, bring it, celebrate it. In the grand tradition of color-themed rides, we will ride past some pink things for photos and just general celebration. Our ride will end at our shop, A Convenient Cycle, where we will have some bikes for sale, and as many pink accessories as we can. This is a lightly-planned ride so we will consider it the soft opening for a future sparkly PINK ride! 6-10 miles, slow paced, no drop, young ones welcome

The Gaza Sunbirds are a paracycling team from Gaza who are calling on cyclists around the world to ride with them this weekend in solidarity with Gazans and Palestinian prisoners. We'll be riding not just in solidarity with Palestine, but with oppressed people and prisoners everywhere! Through poetry, music, food, art, and storytelling, we'll get riders engaged with liberation struggles from Palestine to the Philippines, from Oregon to Iran. Meet us at Laurelhurst Park at 5:30 for some speakers. Roll out at 6 and ride along with us to 3 different stops where we'll learn about other causes (and how they're all connected). At the end we'll have food from Vegan Syrian, live screen printing with @Ankh.Inkh.Studios and @Bint.Bandora (bring your own light-colored T-shirt or tote) and a film screening about Palestinian prisoners. Pace will be easy, and no one gets left behind. Don’t forget your metaphorical One Ring to toss into our imaginary lava lake! All riders, all wheels, all welcome. LOTR gatekeeping will be met with good-natured mockery and second breakfast jokes. Title says it all. A dive into the music of The Cure. Given the importance, of this band for making so many people feel they’ve a place, we’re open to song requests via insta comments (Not DM’s) and at the start. Music will cover from their early punk ish roots too their Opus ‘Disintegration’ and the newly EDM remixed Cure approved tracks. There will be dancing. Everyone’s favorite band to hate but have you listened to Nickleback recently? It’s like when a Journey song comes on and people in flannel Shirts and Levi 501’s suddenly appear like a flash mob and start singing. Can this band really be that bad if so many people love singing their music? Come join us for a Best of ride. (This is a joke. Please don’t show up in a Nickleback T shirt and drawn on goatee expecting a ride. The entire event is only 2 minutes long)

Sat, Aug 16, 2025, 10:00 PM
(I said I'd put some later bike rides on the calendar so here we go.) Night time is the right time for bike rides. Portland shuts down at 9 pm and the streets are basically empty at 10 pm. Why? I have no idea. But this makes night time rides more fun because we can basically take over the streets. Join me as I bike around at night. I don't really have a route in mind yet but it will likely involve some dirt and off pavement, so be prepared. Also, it's probably gonna be a little quicker than the usual "Pedalpalooza pace"(TM) so if you're into this kind of thing, come out and have some fun! Meet up at 10 pm in the parking lot of the opera building near Tilikum. Roll out around 10:30. You'll need lights...

Want to meet fellow cargo biking families for a short bike ride around N Portland with some VERY kid-friendly stops?? This ride is for you! We'll start with coffee and breakfast (some provided but feel free to bring anything you'd like to share!) at the Peninsula Park playground. We've heard the new kids area is incredible and can't wait to check it out as a group. We'll post exact times we're leaving/arriving to each location closer to the date, but expect a slow ride, good vibes and lots of little bikers! Meet at 10 am, roll out at 10:15 am
11:30 AM
End location: Tigard Public Library, 13500 SW Hall Blvd, Tigard, OR 97223
Join us for a leisurely Sunday morning ride leading from the Beaverton City Library to the Tigard Public Library! Bring a book (or check one out at our destination) and some cash for the Tigard Farmer's Market, which we will pass shortly before reaching the Tigard Public Library. The planned route covers 6.6 miles of mostly-flat terrain and almost exclusively follow the Fanno Creek Trail. Expect a small amount of road cycling along SW 5th Street & low-traffic neighborhood greenways during the first 25% of the route, then paved multi-use paths with minimal street crossings the rest of the way. This is a no-drop ride and we will cycle at a relaxed social pace (under 10 mph) - that way we can safely travel around any pedestrians (or ducks) on the trail. We will also make a water/bathroom pit stop about halfway along the route. Lastly, there will be an optional return ride that will depart 2 hours after we arrive at the Tigard Public Library. This 9.3 mile return route will be more adventurous, mostly emphasizing low traffic greenways and residential streets and occasionally crossing paths with the Fanno Creek Trail. We will swing further west and then north to pass through Summerlake Park Reservoir; cut through the Downing Greenway to get back to FCT; make a right on SW Denney and proceed north along the elevated bikeway on SW Western Ave; and lastly make a left on SW 5th Street to finish up at the Beaverton City Library. The exact details of the return route may be subject to change prior to Sunday 8/17. Feel free to email me with any suggested changes. go here if you wanna race in the Criterium little speed demon : https://portlandcriterium.com/lloyd_district_crit/ Wear an inflatable costume and ride a bicycle at Parade Pace! It's much easier if your costume doesn't cover your face. but I might rock a T-Rex so don't ride so close to me. plan ahead, super easy to find costumes online. :) We will ride some streets outside of the race course. NE Holladay, NE 15th, the other half of NE Halsey & NE 9th or maybe NE 7th. We will also ride a few laps on the course between 12:55pm and 1:10pm short video of 2023 ride: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKMmEfkypJ8&t=2s Were you at Pioneer Courthouse Square on Friday June 24, 2022 wearing an inflatableT-Rex costume setting a world record? https://www.instagram.com/p/CfRwcZcJdcg/ Still have your costume & notice how forlorn it is just sitting there? Have you ever wondered if it is possible to ride a bicycle in an inflatable costume? I have. And then I googled it. Much to my surprise, there are some people out there that have already ridden a bike in their inflatable T-Rex costume... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOumG6HS-rY So, are you gonna live the entire summer without showing people how truly awesome, fun, and perhaps foolish, you are? Right!! I didn't think so. Have you still not ridden across the Blumenauer Bridge?? If you have, now you can do it in costume ! if you know Chris Guillebeau, would you please let him know he inspired me ! Need a costume? I bought my inflatable costume on Ebay for $44 bucks from someone in San Francisco, so it got to PDX in just 3 days so you have time to order yours! maybe get yours on ebay or some other online place. there are so many to choose from !! search online for "inflatable costume" and be amazed !. Please also email if you have questions. Bring Your Own Tape if you fear your rear wheel will eat your tail. ride at your own risk! but we will be riding at Parade Pace!

Meet at 11:00, ride at 11:15
12:00 PM
End location: Speck's Records & Tapes
On this ride we will be exploring the ex-boyfriend genre of music, including but not limited to: the National, Bright Eyes, Interpol, and more. While the organizers have a certain brand of hipster indie ex-boyfriend in mind, please queer all of the above, including the word boyfriend. An expansive definition of ex is also welcome. Maybe you’re the boyfriend—do you insist that others “have to listen to the album straight through?” Did you make your partner listen to Neutral Milk Hotel’s “early stuff” while moving to Portland? Did you ask them to move with you without /quite/ asking them to move with you? The important thing is, this person probably cares a lot about music and vinyl and hi fi audio, and like, speakers. Come dressed as your ex (first person wearing their ex’s Joy Division t-shirt gets a prize)—you can sell the fit at Give & Take while we have a corrective crate digging experience at Speck’s where our ride will formally break up. Conscious uncouplings may happen on our journey (this is not a no-drop ride), which will be about an hour long with a stop at Irving Park. Submit songs or bands for playlist consideration to craws_bridges.9c@icloud.com by August 10. As one of my exes said, “let’s ride.”

Sun, Aug 17, 2025, 12:00 PM
Meet at noon, ride at 12:15
4:00 PM
End location: Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St, Vancouver, WA 98660
Each ride in this series will start at a Multnomah County Library (MCL) branch and end at a different library system, with an opportunity to sign up for a card at both locations. Did you know that if you live in any Portland area county — Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, or Clark — you can get library cards for all of those systems? Each library system has a unique selection of materials and services, so collect 'em all! Libraries also make great pit stops while out riding — water, bathrooms, a quiet spot to stop and rest without having to spend money — so knowing your library branches can be very useful even when farther from home. First up is Vancouver — officially, Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries (FVRL). We'll start at the MCL North Portland branch, swing by the recently-reopened MCL Kenton branch, then head over to Vancouver to the downtown Vancouver Community Library branch. If you want to sign up for an FVRL library card, bring photo ID and proof of address. See fvrl.org/library-accounts for more details and what kind of documents to bring. Route map: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/50234458 Another perk of libraries is that they often have activities or exhibits available to visitors. For July and August, the Vancouver Community Library branch has an art exhibit by the Chronic Pain Project, "Illuminating the Invisible." The Chronic Pain Project is a local nonprofit "dedicated to raising awareness of the often-overlooked experience of living with chronic pain." The exhibit on display at the library was created by participants in the Chronic Pain Project and "the art created is a visual representation of their experience of pain intended to provoke conversation and promote understanding the wide variety of experiences people have with chronic pain." See chronicpainproject.org for more details. The ride isn't officially a loop, but if you stick around for a bit (check out the art, and maybe the farmers' market: vancouverfarmersmarket.org/downtown-market) we'll ride back as a group. Departure time from Vancouver TBD, but likely around 3:00pm. Directions also gladly given back to the start or to the MAX if you want to leave earlier. When we get back to Portland there might be a bonus stop at the also–recently reopened Albina branch; TBD. Look for future rides in this series to libraries in Milwaukie (Clackamas County, LINCC) and Beaverton (Washington County, WCCLS), dates TBD.

Meet at 6:30pm. Start tying in the park. Ride at 7:30pm
9:00 PM
Ride is a loop
Meet at a park. Tie rope decoratively over your self and friends. Then we'll ride with the patterns still on! People wear rope for many reasons: it's beautiful, artistic, a connecting activity, to take photos, and/or to get good at knots. We'll start by tying outdoors in the park for an hour. Bring a blanket, your own rope, and all you need for your ties. There's no official class or instruction. Time in the park will be an open "rope jam", time for experimentation, fun, and/or socializing. If you're new to rope, here are two basic patterns that would work for this ride: 1.) hishi karada, the rope dress: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuPz0tZUjFc&t=4s 2.) chest harness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUsznt8qNgE Rope rules for biking: Keep the patterns decorative, and loose enough that it's not constricting anything while you ride. No loose ends dangling! We'll take time to ensure there are no dangling loose ends. We'll ride slow, and pull over if anyone has issues with rope coming loose. We'll have a park stop or two along the way, so folks can fix any issues with rope. Ride details: Slow ride, paced for people learning to bicycle. No one will be left behind. This allows time for socializing during the ride. We’ll take greenways and bike lanes, to minimize interactions with drivers… because Portland’s bicycle network is incomplete, there may be short necessary portions of sharing larger roads, and we’ll stay together as a group for safety.

Sometime in the middle 19th century, stone mile markers were placed along the length of what became SE Stark St. From the Willamette to the Sandy River, these milestones helped travellers navigate what was once a wild area. No experience required (I think I played tennis once when I was a kid so I'm no Tashi Duncan). We'll listen to the Challengers Original Score by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross and other music that fits the vibe. Bring your tennis racket/balls, water, tubes, and your third wheel. Sharing is caring! **Would be super cool if people are willing to share their tennis gear or knowledge so anyone who wants to join can give it a shot **I won't post the route ahead of time, so hit me up if you wanna know, or ask me at the start of the ride **We'll spend some amount of time at each stop to toss some balls around **bring the bi vibes

End location: Ride is always a loop
Our instagram is nakedHeartspdx so you can see how we ride. Weekly themed rides. Different ride leaders each week, but you can expect the ride to be social paced (8ish mph), no-drop, safe and welcoming, store stop with safe clean bathroom access and the ride is always a loop. We practice consent and non-violence specially with car interactions, what one ride does affects how all rides get treated. The Mellow Mondays are a space for (new) ride leaders to try out ideas in a very supported environment. You’ll often see Mondays rides appearing again during the warmer riding season. We follow the shift code of conduct and expect everyone to be respectful of themselves and others around them. This is so we can actually relax and have fun and connect with each other in a softer space. This isn’t a sober ride but we ask for moderation to keep the atmosphere relaxed. We recommend Abraham Fixes bikes in N Williams and NomadCycles (e-bike specialist) for repairs/sales and parts. Our friends over at RideSafePDX host regular ride and we’ recommend those as a pleasant warm group to ride with.

RIDE PUSHED BACK TO TUESDAY AUGUST 19 DUE TO HEAT RIDE DESCRIPTION UPDATED 8/11 *Bring A Water Bottle! it's gonna be hot!* *ride end point updated to Dharma Rain Zen Center - 8500 NE Siskiyou* The annual taco ride is back - but in the interest of shaking things up a bit and scouting some new spots, we're headed northeast this year instead of north (!) We're gonna eat hundreds of tacos from Northeast Portland's best tacquerias and food trucks. birria, shrimp, asada, chorizo, fish, chicken, veggie, relleno, mango habanero, carnitas and more. Wanna bike around and help us eat them? As per tradition, we'll meet at the Gazebo of Peninsula Park, and we'll make our way east to the Dharma Rain Zen Center. This is a slow, no-drop (no one left behind!), all-ages-and-abilities ride on flat neighborhood greenways and chill streets - it's about a 7 mile ride, one-way, and it finishes close to MAX and other bus routes. Please bring cash to hand to me at the beginning of the ride, or even better, venmo/paypal me some $ ahead of time (asking sliding scale $20-50 depending on how hungry you are/how generous you are). Proceeds go towards very generous tipping at each local business and anything left over ends up towards a lump sum donation to PCUN – Pineros y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste - a farmworkers union that all of us should be supporting in these wretched times we live in. All-but-finalized plans - due to the heat we might make some last minute changes, we'll update this page by 3pm Tuesday if it changes: El Nutri Taco, 2124 NE Alberta St Loncheria Los Mayas, 4212 NE Prescott St Rose City Burrito, 6205 NE Prescott St ki'ikibáa, 3244 NE 82nd Ave We'll buy some vegetarian tacos, too, but to be clear, some of these places have better veggie tacos than others, so adjust expectations accordingly. venmo: @ambrown You don't *have* to RSVP, but it's strongly encouraged, especially if you want vegetarian tacos. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeemZxFRUgNwK3ojNPEDwNM5555UY-sS26WJy9A6dHe84QNnQ/viewform?usp=dialog

It's time, Cheetah Sisters! Time to throw your hands up if you know that you're a star! Are you ready to strut like you mean it, free your mind? Do you *absolutely* not want to be like Cinderella, sitting in a dark old dusty cellar, waiting for somebody to come and set you free? Hop on our Cheetah Girls ride, where we will be playing all the most Cheetahliscuous hits and biking around the town in our most bomb, whack-attack Cheetah-print outfits! Show up ready for a moderately easy route, and remember, if he doesn't respect your art, he can't have your heart. Who knows, we may stop along the way at a few special spots to boogie-oogie-oogie through Barcelona, create choreography for some of our favorite hits, and belt our hearts out with our karaoke machine (or even end the night at a karaoke bar!). Whether you're a Bubbles, a Chuchie, a Do, or an Aqua, it's time to ride, sisters- so get ready to slay your own dragons and dream your own dreams! Most importantly, never forget... "You're a Cheetah Girl because of who you are and what's in your heart."

FKA Twosday Road Rascals but a slightly different approach. Taking back 2sDay is here and starting this summer for a ride every other week! We continue the tradition that started at the picnic tables at Irving park years ago. The torch has been passed and we’re back! Well be focusing different end spots then usual ones plus we’ll have new ride leads popping up thru summer so if you want to lead just ask! Party paced to swifter at times with regroups and a real no drop mentality. Meets at the picnic tables by the tennis courts or under the covered area if it rains. Meet around 7 for a 7:45 roll out! If you’re banned from other rides don’t come on this one. Pretty simple lol. Don’t be an asshole to others on the ride and traffic or pedestrians, respect people’s space consent and possessions. We strive to make this a safe place for all and welcoming to everyone 🖤🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️✊

Ride is a loop
End location: beer if anything is open after 8
As children watch patiently out the window for the chance to ride a bike to school or the park, and the state transportation funding plan struggles to join the 21st century, PBOT continues building streets for cars, sometimes with a block or two of bike lane for a treat. Bikeway designs from 20 years ago are being cast in concrete as the anticlimax of 30 years of advocacy, to the tune of $26M/mile... and about one mile per decade. We'll look at the terrain between Multnomah, Burlingame, Hillsdale, and a few other neighborhoods, why Barbur Blvd is such a state-highway-dept-neglected disaster, some recently-completed obsolete bike infrastructure, and the secret trails and side streets we use to sneak through the gaps between the car sewers. This casual group ride will be an easy pace with several stops to discuss and observe the transportation infrastructure and missing links of southwest bikeways along the SW corridor.

At this point it’s pretty much official that the wonderful Benno Boy has ridden his last ride. Last Saturday the 28th of June Benno Boy hit the Godzilla,King Kong and Gigantor of Potholes at SE 39th and Stark on the way to @biteonbelmont. After 22755 Miles and 8 wonderful years of Riding all over Portland Oregon, nearly 1000+ Group Bike Rides and probably around 300-400 Ride Leads during Pedalpalooza and Afterpalooza plus probably 2000 rides to Portlands Food Carts his frame gave up the ghost. I’m very sad to say Goodbye to my trusty steed as he had become a huge part of who I am. There will be a memorial ride to say goodbye and to welcome his successor on Wednesday August 13th (Mini Version) and Saturday August 23rd (Full Version) Thank you to all the incredible bike mechanics for keeping him running since he was purchased from The eBike Store May 4th 2017 you are heroes of the highest order. FYI - many of Benno Boys parts will live on in his successor. Thank you #bennoboy you will be missed. Benno Boys official last Bike Summer Ride Lead was the #BonbRelay on Friday June 27th. FYI - what does this ride include? If you know me my rides are equal parts of the following: Getting Lost (Get Lost Rides) Cool Streets (Streets that are not straight) Coolness or Hidden Portland Rides (Lots of Murals, Artwork, Colored Houses and fun found things) Light Brigade (Fun lit up rides) And Finally Foodie and Family Friendly Rides The Mini Memorial Ride will be a condensed (Mini) version of the larger ride on the 23rd staying in the inner city and wrapping up at the Duckworth Dock for a swim in the Willamette Please bring any photos and stories about Benno Boy

Thursday Night Ride
Thu, Aug 21, 2025, 7:00 PM
Meet at 7:00, announcements at 7:30, leave after “Beer Minutes.”
End location: Not a loop, but usually with a fire.
Thursday Night Ride is Portland’s longest-running weekly social ride, riding every Thursday night since 2015! Routes and ride leaders change weekly, but expect an energetic party-paced “rolling dive bar” of a ride for newcomers and regulars alike. Most rides will feature park and store stops, but come prepared to have fun and celebrate cycling together—other wheeled guests should respect the pace and space of cyclists. New leadership, same positive vibes. While you might expect some wheelies and other chaos, riders are expected to follow Shift’s Code of Conduct, and if you’re banned from any Shift rides, TNR isn’t for you. No complaints, just accountability—if your behavior makes others feel uncomfortable or unsafe, please leave the ride before the ride leaves you. Riders should practice consent, accountability, respect, and de-escalation at all times. Stay behind the ride leader and don’t forget to thank a corker! 📍 Salmon Street Springs, every Thursday, rain or shine. 🕖 Meet at 7:00, announcements at 7:30. ✨Be an Empowered Bystander✨ See something off? Step up in a way that feels right for you: 🗣️ Direct: If it's safe, say *That's Not Right* for TNR. 🎭 Distract: Change the vibe and give them an out 🙋🏽 Delegate: Get help from a ride leader or trusted friend ⏳ Delay: Check in with the person afterwards 📝 Document: Write down what happened
⛲️ If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to get involved, come early and ask for the ride leader—we’ll see you at the fountain!

Meet 7ish. Ride 8 ish.
Find your bike Every Friday Night. We meet at Ladds circle, in the circle. If it is raining, head down to the covered area of Abernethy Elementary School. Ride slowly meets at 7 pm and departs roughly at 7:45/8ish pm. An honorary 3 minutes of Ladd laps (Ding Ding Ride/Ladd500) and then we send it. Sometimes we have guest ride leaders. Friday Night Rides are different every time. Sometimes we go to other rides happening around town during the summer. End of ride fires/good vibes/respect/no jerks/ We are a community. Respect each other! No aggressive, sexist, racist, or any other kind of BS will be tolerated. Violations against the code of conduct will be reported to shift2bikes. If you ride Sur-Ron/powerful electric bikes this is not the ride for you. You can come but you might be heckled. This is a bicycle ride. Bring lights/locks/responsible vibes/a cup/ Casual pace with some extra zip 10-20ish mile rides with store stops/park stops/art stops NOT NECESSARILY A NO DROP RIDE… ESPECIALLY IN THE FALL/WINTER/SPRING. Be careful of slippery roads/leafs on ground/pot holes. Call out road hazards to help bike friends stay safe. 1st Friday is bottle share night. (bottle of wine/crazy beer/kombucha/coconut water/fizzy waters/anything you like to drink/want to share) 2nd Fridays are MMR - later night vibes to make it to Midnight Mystery Ride. If you want to lead a ride just ask! REPEAT… NOT NECESSARILY A NO DROP RIDE… ESPECIALLY IN THE FALL/WINTER/SPRING. Guest ride leaders wanted and appreciated! Instagram @fridaynightride

Leave at 8:15 after Portland Opera performance ends
The link at the bottom takes you too a video Jack Coleman (videographer) made from the last Opera ride. First: Do you need to like Opera? Not at all. If you’re open to music transforming the way a ride feels and how our city looks you’re in for a treat. What can you expect? Well, Opera. A carefully curated playlist. Moments of high drama and thrilling exaltation. Periods of such serenity as voices and music cascade around the city canyons consuming us in beauty and infrequently heard tones. The first time we held this ride (Amy ‘joy’ and Moorland) had no idea how profound a beautiful experience it would be or the depth of that beauty. Also, the playlist is interspersed with dialogue from the movie Casablanca just to give an underlying tonal theme. Route: We’re going to be rolling through city canyons so the acoustics reverberate. There will be a store stop for refreshments and while there the music will change to Rock Operas. The pace will be social and slow. Rebellion and punk shows in many forms, ask around about this insane ride and the previous years mischief! We troll hard!!! CHAOS!!!!!!!!!!!! Safety: As with all our rides, we practice consent and we practice non violence. You’re invited to come as you are and be who you are.

Not a ride
Variable, announced every Thursday, TBA
Brian McGloin
Sat, Aug 23, 2025, 9:00 AM

There will be a memorial ride to say goodbye and to welcome his successor on Wednesday August 6th (Mini Version) and Saturday August 23rd (Full Version) Thank you to all the incredible bike mechanics for keeping him running since he was purchased from The eBike Store May 4th 2017 you are heroes of the highest order. Sat, Aug 23, 2025, 7:00 PM
Meet at 7pm, ride at 7:30pm sharp.
End location: 44:43 minutes from the start
The KLF are the Banksys (before Banksy was a thing) of the music world. In 1991 they were the biggest-selling singles act on the planet. They created The Manual (How to Have a Number One the Easy Way). They collaborated with the first lady of country Tammy Wynette. They deleted their back catalogue. On one August 23rd, at the height of their success in 1990s Britain, they went to Jura, Scotland, and set fire to a million pounds. The band's 1990 ambient album Chill Out (released by Wax Trax in the US) is one of the most beautiful and etheric pieces of music in existence, recorded in a continuous 44:43 minute live take. Taking the form of a road trip through the USA, soundscapes paint landscapes of rolling trains and fields, sunrises and sunsets, hopes raised, dreams dashed and wishes yet to be fulfilled. A soundtrack for the soul's movie, it's dotted with birds whistling, sheep bleating and a touch of Tuvan throat singing. Flashes of news reports, commercials and preachers also feature. Samples used are from Elvis, Fleetwood Mac, Van Halen and Acker Bilk. We'll ride our bikes beside the train tracks, through industrial areas, by drive-thrus and gas stations and ice cream shops, past street art, under trees and along the river as we listen to this spirited slice of aural heaven. Ride time is 44 minutes 43 seconds. Stay on at our final stop for KLF jams and creativity. More ride and route info to come, but we'll be justified and ancient as we roam the (Port)land all bound for Mu Mu land. At the start we'll have info about and messages from The KLF regarding this ride and route. Who knows, they make take over leading it in a manner as they deem fit. Suggestions for the ride: - Dress as a sheep to mimic the Chill Out album's bucolic cover. - Turn your bike into an ice cream van. - Wear a Queen of the South FC shirt or a smiley face or some KLF 2323 World Tour merch. - Decorate your bike with daffodils. - Bring along a copy of How to Be an Artist by William Ernest Drummond. - Bring along a Jimmy Cauty Lord of The Rings poster. - Bake a cake for someone on the ride with a note attached: "I have baked you a cake, here it is." After the ride is done we'll play more of The KLF's jams, and for anyone who wants to: - We'll record you speaking one sentence about the emotions and evocations that emerged within you while listening and riding along to Chill Out. We'll gift this as an audio file to Bill Drummond (along with a red, blue, yellow, black or white knitted square containing one thousand stitches (40 rows of 25 stitches)), and Jimmy Cauty. - Show us an item of your own that embodies 'what art is' to you. We'll photograph these and gift the composite image to Bill Drummond (along with a red, blue, yellow, black or white knitted square containing one thousand stitches (40 rows of 25 stitches)), and Jimmy Cauty. - Bring your own art supplies so we can all create something inspired by Chill Out at the end of the ride. We'll compile these into a book and gift it to Bill Drummond (along with a red, blue, yellow, black or white knitted square containing one thousand stitches (40 rows of 25 stitches)), and Jimmy Cauty. America: What Time Is Love? It's when this ride takes place.

This is the DRUM&BASS ride you have been waiting for all season. We have just confirmed REID SPEED and her partner, ROSSON to headline the after party! More details to come! Reid Speed is recognized worldwide as a highly skilled drum & bass DJ as well as a pioneer of the multi-genre bass music movement. From her start at legendary NYC drum & bass store/label Breakbeat Science to founding her own labels Play Me Records and Play Me Too, she has remained a fan favorite DJ, a chart topping producer, and was seen as an instrumental player in the development of the North American Bass Music sound. She’s known for dropping blistering multi-genre sets that have inspired a generation of female DJs. With her keen ear, Play Me has become a launchpad for more hot new artists than any other label of its kind, helping to kickstart the careers of the likes of Dillon Francis, Must Die, Figure, Bare, Singularity, Cyberoptics, and many more. We'll meet at 11:45 and ride at Noon
2:15 PM
End location: Cartlandia
This city staff-led ride will explore Portland’s Johnson Creek. Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) has been working for more than 25 years to reduce flooding and improve habitat and recreation opportunities along Johnson Creek. Their latest effort--the Springwater Wetlands and Floodplain Restoration Project--is a prime example of this. In additional to restoring 30 acres of wetlands and habitat in the Johnson Creek floodplain, BES and the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) partnered to build a bicycle and pedestrian path that connects the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood to the Springwater Corridor Trail near SE 115th Ave. This ride will cruise down the Springwater Corridor to take a “ribbon-cutting” ride on the new path. We’ll view a few other truly impressive water management projects on the way, hear briefly from knowledgeable speakers and then end at the Cartlandia food cart pod for talk, food and drink. End location: not a loop - end with a swim spot
Join us for games and silliness! Summer may be coming to a close, but you know what that means, it's time for field day!! Hop on your bike, throw on your tie-dye shirt, and limber up for sack racing. Grab your favorite three-legged race buddy, and come on down. We'll be playing games on games and throwing it back to the days of our youth. We'll meet at Clinton Park in southeast and make our way north. Expect a couple of park stops, a store stop, and a silly, fun no-drop ride. (route distance roughly 6-7 miles with some nonsense thrown in for good measure) Possible swim spot at the end! We suggest bringing some snacks, your shoes for running and playing, and water in addition to alcohol. We'll see you there! Meet at Clinton park by the bathrooms just past the playground!

wear an inflatable costume and ride a bicycle. It's much easier if your costume doesn't cover your face. but I might rock a T-Rex so don't ride so close to me. plan ahead, super easy to find costumes online. :) this will be one of your best summer memories for sure! We will ride to Grilled by Bike to eat their lunch, then ride to Irving Park for Kidical Mass and Ice Cream on Mississippi !! Were you at Pioneer Courthouse Square on Friday June 24, 2022 wearing an inflatableT-Rex costume setting a world record? https://www.instagram.com/p/CfRwcZcJdcg/ Still have your costume & notice how forlorn it is just sitting there?

In our second year of Poetry Post Pedaling, we'll visit and read from poems posted in Concordia, Irvington, Alameda, Grant Park, Sullivan's Gulch, Rose City Park, North Tabor, and Laurelhurst. If you know of (or are the host of!) a poetry post in one of these neighborhoods, reach out and we'll see if we can include it in the route. We end with a park picnic and more poems. We will be very near stores during two of our stops, including Realm Refillery. 9 of 11 poetry posts will be within the first 5.5 miles, so if you'd like a shorter route, there will be an opportunity to peel off at that point and stay in NE. The second to last stop near Stark on SE 52nd is extra special though! This reschedule from 8/10's heat opens the opportunity for a R2W: Ride to Write to join up with Read, Write, & Ride's writing and sharing time at Mt. Tabor. Celebrate the last weekend day before school starts by riding to get vegan ice cream on Mississippi Avenue with other kids and families as part of Kidical Mass PDX! We will ride from Irving Park in NE on this free, family-friendly, kid-paced bike ride. We’ll start at the Irving Park at 2pm, and ride 1.5 miles to a place on Mississippi Avenue where you can get Ice Cream. This is the last Sunday before school starts for PPS, so this is a great time to ride was a family before we switch to Bike Bus season! Meet at 2:00pm, ride at 2:15pm. The ride is a flat 3 mile loop, so it is suitable for most young bike riders who can pedal their own bike without training wheels. We will stop for a while to get ice cream. This ride is free, but bring money to get ice cream. We will ride at a slow pace for little pedalers and parents on cargo bikes. Kids should wear a helmet, be able to balance and pedal in a straight line, start and stop. Cargo bikes, tandems, trailers and tag-a-longs are great for kids who haven’t learned to pedal. Adult corkers are welcome to join as a traffic safety superheroes. We’ll ride together as a group, rain or shine, because kids are traffic too! Map: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46718270

Ride is a loop

Meet at 7, Test sketch at 7:30, Ride at 8
9:00 PM
Don't draw a bike, bike a drawing! Using state of the art technology, each rider will draw a colored line on a collaborative sketch just by riding around. It's magic, like Etch A Sketch, but the drawing dials are the wheels of your bike. How will the canvas affect our creativity? What are the limits and opportunities of this advanced new art medium? Bring a smartphone. A method to mount your phone to your bike will allow you to see the sketch in progress hands-free, which is more interactive, but not absolutely necessary. Tech notes: Bike-A-Sketch is a web-app that runs in the Safari or Chrome browser, and needs access to your location. - On iPhone: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Safari Websites and choose While Using the App and enable Precise Location. - On Android: Go to Settings > Apps > Chrome > Permissions > Location > and choose Always. Now when you load Bike-A-Sketch it should ask for access to your location. Choose Allow. During sketch sessions, try to keep Bike-A-Sketch in the foreground and your phone unlocked for smooth lines. Part of a series. Bike-A-Sketch 2: https://www.shift2bikes.org/calendar/event-21641
