Bike Happy Hour, Ankeny Rainbow Road plaza, 2720 SE Ankeny St, Portland, OR 97214
I'll find the quietest spot on the plaza, and announce it to everyone in the area.
Viv, traffic instructor
Wed, Jul 2, 2025, 6:00 PM
Meet at 6pm at Bike Happy Hour. Trivia starts at 6:30pm. We'll ride after a few trivia questions.
7:30 PM
End location: Lovejoy Fountain Park (downtown)
Educational ride, taught by a traffic instructor. I’ll assign you to trivia teams, and quiz you on pedestrian safety. We’ll ride for short periods, and stop in parks to do trivia. You’ll leave this ride knowing 1.) crosswalks (most people don't understand) 2.) how to avoid the top cause of pedestrian crash (driver failure to yield to pedestrian established in crosswalk) 3.) how to avoid the top cause of pedestrian fatality (driver excessive speed) 4.) How cyclists yield to pedestrians It’ll help your trivia team if you read your Drivers Manual in preparation: https://www.oregon.gov/odot/forms/dmv/37.pdf It'll help if you review pedestrian safety at: https://portlandbicycleschool.com/driving-around-pedestrians-faq/ This will be a slow ride, perfectly paced for people learning to bicycle, and families with children. No one will be left behind. This allows time for socializing during the ride. We’ll take greenways and bike lanes, to minimize interactions with drivers… because Portland’s bicycle network is incomplete, there may be short necessary portions of sharing larger roads, and we’ll stay together as a group for safety. This is an Oregon Walks event. Oregon Walks is our pedestrian advocacy organization.

End location: Fifty Licks, 2021 SE Clinton St
Anyone who's read my blog/follows me on Instagram knows that for me, bikes and ice cream go hand in hand. So it's about time I led an ice cream pedalpalooza ride! This route has been meticulously sculpted to not only be fun, but to also look cool (if you're the type to track your route 😉), AND of course to include some fine hand crafted ice cream establishments! 🍦🍨 We will stop at Cloud City around halfway, and the ride will end at Fifty Licks. (Not quite a loop, but we will pass thru the starting park after Cloud City if you want to make it a loop and bail early) Note, if you prefer a "Short and Sweet ride", the ride won't be stopping, but we will be directly passing by Salt and Straw ice cream on Division if you want to bail at mile 1. Please consider bringing your own spoon and maybe a bowl/cup/mug, if our group gets too big we may need to buy pints/larger cups and split to keep from overwhelming the shops! Our mid ride stop, Cloud City is also adjacent to a Safeway and a New Seasons if we need alternate ice cream options depending on our group size). Please plan on tipping the staff, especially if we end up being a big group! Start above the restrooms overlooking the tennis courts. There is one small cut through portion with some dirt/gravel. https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/341574776

The faster and more adventurous group ride you love is going to be riding up the Sunset Path to the zoo exit for some well documented funny business!! With the bike punk spirit of Zoo Bomb we will be bombing along Hwy 26 through the Jefferson Street tunnel into downtown. This 9 mile route is one of the unique things about Portland and bikes and we want to continue on with the spirit of the bike community before us! Thanks for paving the way, y'all. As always we have a no drop mentality. There is maybe 800 feet of elevation for the chance to etch yourself in PDX Bike ethos. We love you! Meet at 7:00, announcements at 7:30, leave after “Beer Minutes.”
End location: Not a loop, but usually with a fire.
Thursday Night Ride is Portland’s longest-running weekly social ride, riding every Thursday night since 2015! Routes and ride leaders change weekly, but expect an energetic party-paced “rolling dive bar” of a ride for newcomers and regulars alike. Most rides will feature park and store stops, but come prepared to have fun and celebrate cycling together—other wheeled guests should respect the pace and space of cyclists. New leadership, same positive vibes. While you might expect some wheelies and other chaos, riders are expected to follow Shift’s Code of Conduct, and if you’re banned from any Shift rides, TNR isn’t for you. No complaints, just accountability—if your behavior makes others feel uncomfortable or unsafe, please leave the ride before the ride leaves you. Riders should practice consent, accountability, respect, and de-escalation at all times. Stay behind the ride leader and don’t forget to thank a corker! 📍 Salmon Street Springs, every Thursday, rain or shine. 🕖 Meet at 7:00, announcements at 7:30. ✨Be an Empowered Bystander✨ See something off? Step up in a way that feels right for you: 🗣️ Direct: If it's safe, say *That's Not Right* for TNR. 🎭 Distract: Change the vibe and give them an out 🙋🏽 Delegate: Get help from a ride leader or trusted friend ⏳ Delay: Check in with the person afterwards 📝 Document: Write down what happened
⛲️ If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to get involved, come early and ask for the ride leader—we’ll see you at the fountain!

The content will include views of anarchism, anti-fascism, capitalism, feminism, sexual repression, and religious institutions. The sounds will be loud and include a lot of Fbombs, for those bringing younger ones. (Ride leaders family, before emigrating, lived in the same village in Wales for over 800 years) What better way to celebrate America’s independence than celebrating a country that fiercely stood independent from all foreign powers for 10,000 years. The Welsh Genetic lineage began around 10,000 years ago when they broke away from ancient Britons. The Ice Age had recently ended and the scoured land of Wales became accessible as 100’s of meters of Ice retreated. The Welsh people left the low lands of England by their Border and took to the hills of Wales. Rumors that his divergence is due to their tight bonds with Neanderthals exist. Over a vast span of time the Welsh resisted occupation, by every empire and country that tried. The Vikings, Anglo-Saxon’s, The Roman Empire, The British Empire, and countless tribes attempted to conquer Wales. Yet, the Welsh had perfected Guerrilla warfare, had a reputation of strength and were defiantly unstoppable against massive forces. The current population of Welsh people in Wales is about the same as the population of Greater Portland. The Welsh people maintain their language, roads signs are in Welsh all Government paperwork is in Welsh, and the Welsh country side is often filled with smoke from the deliberate burning of the second homes of English people. The Welsh through their independent history have made themselves a distinct genetic group that resembles a people as isolated as tribes in South America despite being adjacent to England.

Sat, Jul 5, 2025, 9:00 AM
Starts at about 9, people roll in and out through around 11
We meet at a different park in Portland every Saturday all year morning at about 9 to talk about home repair, travel plans, obscure board games, insects, etymology and sometimes bikes. Coffee Outside is often a meeting or starting point for adventures, day rides, group food cart rides or other outings. Bring a means to make coffee or some sort of coffee-adjacent beverage, or not. Instant chai? Perfect. A canned coffee beverage from the bodega? Legit. A special small batch blend of beans roasted in your neighborhood roastery that you measure by weight (portable scale, naturally) hand-grind in your titanium grinder before making a slow pour-over using hand-made paper filters and perfect temperature water? Sure, go for it. Baked goods are always appreciated but not at all required. Uniform? Nope. Fancy bike? Nope. Racing or ultra bikepacking chops? Nope. We enthusiastically welcome new faces and have no barrier to entry other than being your authentic self and leaving any bad/aggro attitudes at home. We post the location every Thursday on the PDX Coffee Outside website, which our friend Chris updates, and our Instagram account.

Ride is a loop
The Green Loop will be a six-mile linear park that connects people through the heart of Portland, especially by bike. Let's help bring this planning concept to life by riding sections of the Green Loop today and exploring what it connects now, and what it could connect to in the future. Topics will include bike network design, activated places, advanced physical and digital wayfinding, public/private partnerships, urban re-greening, public art, and delicious food. This ride will focus specifically on the Eastside of the Green Loop, but exploring connections to the West, North, South, and further East. Sunday Parkways on September 14th will include portions of the Green Loop West (https://www.portland.gov/sunday-parkways/downtown-event-2025), look for Sunday Parkways feeder rides from and back to the Green Loop East in September.

End location: Near Ladd’s Circle Park
Do you like Toothless or Charizard? Vrtra or Mushu? Do you passionately debate who would win if Drogon fought Smaug? Do you love “Game of Thrones”? Or have read every “Dragonriders of Pern” book? Or maybe you just love dragons, period. Well then, get your wings and fire ready and fly with us! Put on your awesomest dragon attire and turn your bicycle into a dragon. Alternatively, feel free to cosplay any character associated with dragons, such as Raya, Daenerys, Hiccup, Geralt, or Donkey. After meeting at Grant Park, our first stop is a dragon mural for a group pic, next stop is a mystery activity at Irving Park, then we’ll visit a second mural for another group pic. We’ll glide to a mystery location — a retail store, so you may want to bring a bike lock. Fly once more to perch atop a dragon-themed restaurant, where we’ll have spicy food and breathe fire. But no worries if you’re a baby dragon — mild food is also available. Route is just under 10 miles, social pace, no drop.

Meet at 10, Ride at 1030
Ride is a loop
Please join us for the most family friendly ride of this summer hosted by Rachael of PDX Dinorama/PDX Sidewalk Joy and PDX: NakedHearts. The ride will meet at Grant Park at 10am and we will ride at 1030 promptly. The ride is a loop and will be around 8 miles stopping at many installations in the Irvington area. Ride is a loop and we will bring you back to Grant Park after. There will be a lot of stops so please keep that in mind; the point is to enjoy all these unique installations that make Portland so amazing! If the ride is large it may be hard to enjoy each stop to the fullest, but we will do our best to make sure everyone gets to see and hear about each one while keeping on schedule. You can expect a mellow pace with a lot of regrouping as well to make sure everyone is together and safe. If you have speakers, please bring them and join our jam or play only family friendly music while respecting keeping space riding between speakers. To be prepared for the fun here are some things you can bring: small toys/figurines, quarters (at least 2), a puzzle, baseball cards, toy car Safety first and fun second! If you are attending please keep in mind this is a family friendly event so we ask that you do not partake in any alcohol or smoking before, during or after while around the group. We will need people to cork; if you are willing to help please check in with anyone in a pink vest/ride leader Nichole before the ride so we can go over expectations with you. You will need to ride in front and precork and we expect anyone corking to practice non violence to keep the group safe. If you have not spoken to us about corking please refrain from doing so. If you are a banned rider you are 100% not welcome on this ride and we will be following the Shift code of conduct. You can view the route here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/51409461

RIDE #2: CESAR CHAVEZ BLVD Southern terminus (SE Cesar Chavez x Tenino) to Hollywood Library, brief pause at Hawthorne Fred Meyer - 5.3 miles, no loop. Our city is lacerated by multi-lane highways and stroads that are hostile to human life and subservient to mass automobility. These rides aim to prefigure what these wretched roadways should become -- long, straight, safe courses for human-powered transit! We claim these roads for bicycling! These rides will take the entire rightmost travel lane, and potentially more, depending on size -- the more people show up to ride together, the less individual bravery any one person needs to bring. Due to the current unsafety of these roads, these rides are not particularly recommended for younger children. The goal is to consistently move at ~12 mph, though we'll maintain whatever pace we need to stay together. The ride leader is an experienced road rider and will ride in the back as caboose/sweep with a brightly visible trailer. Snacks, waters, first aid kit, and bike tools will be on hand. We will follow road laws, but will prioritize staying together as a group, so corking would be welcome if the group size justifies it. This is a series of six rides on "unfriendly" roads -- demanding by action that no city streets should be unfriendly to people outside of cars! June 29, 3:00pm - 11th/12th-Milwaukie July 6, 5:00pm - Cesar Chavez July 12, 11:00am - Sandy July 20, 2:00pm - 82nd July 27, 10:00am - Powell August 3, 1:00pm - MLK Jr.

Ride is a loop
For over a year, I've been borderline obsessed with finding my favorite Portland bike route. The ride I can do from my front door and never fails to see me home happy, regardless how I left. It includes many of the things I love most about biking including the following: Nature, wildlife, gravel, rivers, houses I'll never afford but like fantasize about living in, roads I suspect were not originally made with bikes in mind, unnecessary loops, options to short-cut, options to cut it short, sprawling views, sketchy road crossings, things to catch air off, seasonal colors and decorations, a secret sombrero, reasons to feel proud of PBOT, reason to feel disappointed in PBOT, opportunities to make questionable interpretations of traffic law based on arbitrary rules in my head which change depending on circumstance, bridges, skate parks, urban art, highways, mountains, railroads, power plants, moments where it feels like I've left reality behind, grass, more grass, cute tourist attractions, people in parks, people going to work, people shopping, people going about their day, people from all sorts of economic states, political views, and housing circumstances making up this awesome city, reasons to go fast, reasons to slow down, and reasons to stop to take it all in. I want to share it with folks, so I wrote a blog post (https://austingil.com/luger/) and want to put an event for it on the shift calendar. I'll be riding it with some of my friends on this day, but I should point out some things. This is a 30-mile, self-supported route. There are options for food, drink, bathrooms along the route, but nothing planned, so you're on your own. It's not a race, but on some parts, I like to go as fast as I can. Feel free to download the route in advance in case you want to go ahead, stay behind, or do it a different day (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/50835744) I also like to collect points along the way: +1 do a little, unnecessary loop +1 blow Vera a kiss +1 turn something into a jump +1 get wet +1 each photo op: Mill Ends The Portland Old Town sign The Kenton lumberjack Tilikum Bridge Vera Katz +1 read a poem +1 each one you spot: Train Bus Light rail Air tram Plane Helicopter Police car Ambulance Firetruck Crane (bird) Dragonfly Duck Heron Hawk Goose Egret Good dog Squirrel Osprey Bat Coyote Crane (machinery) Your dream house Mt. Our instagram is nakedHeartspdx so you can see how we ride. Weekly themed rides. Different ride leaders each week, but you can expect the ride to be social paced (8ish mph), no-drop, safe and welcoming, store stop with safe clean bathroom access and the ride is always a loop. We practice consent and non-violence specially with car interactions, what one ride does affects how all rides get treated. The Mellow Mondays are a space for (new) ride leaders to try out ideas in a very supported environment. You’ll often see Mondays rides appearing again during the warmer riding season. We follow the shift code of conduct and expect everyone to be respectful of themselves and others around them. This is so we can actually relax and have fun and connect with each other in a softer space. This isn’t a sober ride but we ask for moderation to keep the atmosphere relaxed. We recommend Abraham Fixes bikes in N Williams and NomadCycles (e-bike specialist) for repairs/sales and parts. Our friends over at RideSafePDX host regular ride and we’ recommend those as a pleasant warm group to ride with.

Quick how to lead a ride tutorial before Mellow Mondays ride. Things we’ll cover, Theme creation, Creating the atmosphere you want, Sourcing support, Route planning, Speed, What if’s…… Then QnA. This is meant as a conversation opener and an opportunity to move towards leading your own rides. This will be lead by Moorland with occasional support. Brief Bio: NakedHearts has lead around 350 ish rides, with 100 ish different ride leaders, we’ve worked with local schools, government agencies, festivals, DJ’s, Bands, venues, parades, artist groups of all kinds and supported 100 ish other rides. So we have a little experience. But the all the experience just teaches caring about the ride and riders is what matters, and everything flows from there. For most people that comes naturally. Kiro (who’s only 8 years old) is considered the best ride leader and he cares about the ride and riders and having fun and that’s what makes him the best because that’s his focus. The mechanics of leading and organizing can seem daunting but it’s within reach of all of us.

Meet at 6pm at Bike Happy Hour. Trivia starts at 6:30pm. We'll ride after a few trivia questions.
7:30 PM
End location: Lovejoy Fountain Park (downtown)
Educational ride, taught by a bicycling traffic instructor. I’ll assign you to trivia teams, and quiz you on bicycle safety. We’ll ride for short periods, and stop in parks to do trivia. You’ll leave this ride knowing how to recognize and avoid the top causes of bicycle crash (the right hook), and bicycle fatality (unsafe passing), as both a cyclist and a driver. It’ll help your trivia team if you read your Drivers Manual in preparation: https://www.oregon.gov/odot/forms/dmv/37.pdf It'll help if you review bike safety at: https://portlandbicycleschool.com/driving-around-bicycles/ This will be a slow ride, perfectly paced for people learning to bicycle, and families with children. No one will be left behind. This allows time for socializing during the ride. We’ll take greenways and bike lanes, to minimize interactions with drivers… because Portland’s bicycle network is incomplete, there may be short necessary portions of sharing larger roads, and we’ll stay together as a group for safety. This is a BikeLoud event. Bikeloud is Portland’s volunteer bike advocacy organization.

If so, this is the ride for you. The theme? Come dressed as your bike! Get creative--wear tassels that match the ones on your handlebars. Make a costume of your rear fender. Whatever reminds you of your boke is fair game here. Are you more of a skater than a bicyclist? You're welcome to join and dress like your skates! We'll do our best to make the route as skate-friendly as we can. --- Ride Safe PDX is a queer-led group that's working to build an inviting, inclusive, and welcoming bike community. TNR #536: Terry’s Birthday
Thursday Night Ride
Thu, Jul 10, 2025, 7:00 PM

Meet at 7:30, depart at 8. Sunset ain't gonna wait for us
10:30 PM
End location: It's a mystery!
Did you know that on the night of the full moon, sunset is usually right before the moon rise? Let's hit up a spot where we can watch both! Stock up on snacks and libations before meeting up, then depart on a chill, slow-ish paced 5-mile (give or take) ride to our mystery destination. Ride not a loop. Lights, layers, and a picnic blanket are good ideas. Extra credit if you bring a telescope or good binoculars to observe the moon. Please note: THERE IS NO STORE STOP. There are markets near the ride start, so go there beforehand. There should be open bathroom(s) at the end. Also: RIDE NOT A LOOP, we end where we stop. If you need help getting back to the start, let me know. Rest assured, we will still be in "civilization" where we end, with Tri-Met service nearby. And most importantly: THIS IS A GOOD CONDITIONS RIDE. Clouds, rain, smoke, and excessive heat may cancel the ride. Check the Shift calendar on the day of ride for confirmation. Sunset 8:59 PM, moonrise 9:34 PM.

All are welcome! 6PM Gathering: We will honor and memorialize "Mayor Mike" O'Callaghan. Michael was a beloved and well-known figure in Portland's bike, activist, and housing communities. He dedicated his life to public service, including a run for Portland Mayor last year (https://mayormikeoc.com). Everyone is welcome to speak and share memories or safety concerns. Ghost Bike Installation: BikeLoud, Families for Safe Streets, and community members will install a ghost bike for Michael at the site. Feel free to add items to the installation. 7PM Ride: A memorial ride will follow that will highlight alternatives to the at-grade rail crossings in the area, while giving us an opportunity to consider improvements. The ride will incorporate elements from the Stopped Train Workaround!, and Wrong Side of the Tracks rides. Thanks Zack and Josh! We will see people living in temporary alternative shelter sites, and non-traditional housing, and might talk about the intersection of housing and transportation. The ride will end near where Michael lived, on the Springwater Corridor just after the Ross Island Bridge. Bring a beverage to toast with, or a "wee dram," in Michael's memory.

Meet 7ish. Ride 8 ish.
Find your bike Every Friday Night. We meet at Ladds circle, in the circle. If it is raining, head down to the covered area of Abernethy Elementary School. Ride slowly meets at 7 pm and departs roughly at 7:45/8ish pm. An honorary 3 minutes of Ladd laps (Ding Ding Ride/Ladd500) and then we send it. Sometimes we have guest ride leaders. Friday Night Rides are different every time. Sometimes we go to other rides happening around town during the summer. End of ride fires/good vibes/respect/no jerks/ We are a community. Respect each other! No aggressive, sexist, racist, or any other kind of BS will be tolerated. Violations against the code of conduct will be reported to shift2bikes. If you ride Sur-Ron/powerful electric bikes this is not the ride for you. You can come but you might be heckled. This is a bicycle ride. Bring lights/locks/responsible vibes/a cup/ Casual pace with some extra zip 10-20ish mile rides with store stops/park stops/art stops NOT NECESSARILY A NO DROP RIDE… ESPECIALLY IN THE FALL/WINTER/SPRING. Be careful of slippery roads/leafs on ground/pot holes. Call out road hazards to help bike friends stay safe. 1st Friday is bottle share night. (bottle of wine/crazy beer/kombucha/coconut water/fizzy waters/anything you like to drink/want to share) 2nd Fridays are MMR - later night vibes to make it to Midnight Mystery Ride. If you want to lead a ride just ask! REPEAT… NOT NECESSARILY A NO DROP RIDE… ESPECIALLY IN THE FALL/WINTER/SPRING. Guest ride leaders wanted and appreciated! Instagram @fridaynightride

Come ride, bop, and dance with us along a magical glitter filled route from Irving to Colonel Summers Park for a dance party! Wear your most scandalous trash pop inspired costumes, glitter, spandex, fur, and friendship bracelets. This year's expanded playlist will leave you praying to whatever holy hell the Jonas Brothers came from for more music, more dancing, and more mini skirts you have to hide from your mom! NO REQUESTS, NO TASTE, NO APOLOGIES. YOU WILL KISS A GIRL AND YOU WILL LIKE IT.
