Edit -- we might move this to Tuesday the 16th. (Will Decide by Friday the 5th) Copenhagen is the best city in the world for bicycling. Riding in Copenhagen is a magical, intense, exhilarating experience. About 1/2 of all commuters use bicycles for travel. Busy urban streets are quiet of cars -- yet busy with the clickity-click of bicycles. Bicycle traffic flows like water, with logical, consistent designs of bike lanes, intersections, and transitions onto paths. It didn't happen by magic. The city's streets have been systematically rebuilt over the last 40 years from a car-centric 4 car lane design to a bicycle wonderland -- wide outside raised lanes for bicycles, and two small inner lanes for cars. Nine Portlanders traveled to Copenhagen last year and biked there. Some of us in groups, some alone. We'll re-live our experience -- talk about it with each other. Try to put in words the experience for others. And we'll ride through four different corridors in Portland. Several that feel similar to Copenhagen. And several that are ideal spots for conversion to a Copenhagen style bikeway. Everyone is welcome -- you don't need to have a particular interest in Copenhagen or Europe to come on this ride!
