| 28 | 29 | 30 | I began to feel that myself plus the bicycle equaled myself plus the world, upon whose spinning wheel we must all earn to ride, or fall into the sluiceways of oblivion and despair. That which made me succeed with the bicycle was precisely what had gained me a measure of success in life -- it was the hardihood of spirit that led me to begin, the persistence of will that held me to my task, and the patience that was willing to begin again when the last stroke had failed. And so I found high moral uses in the bicycle and can commend it as a teacher without pulpit or creed. -- Frances E. Willard, How I Learned To Ride The Bicycle, 1895 |

2ND ANNUAL FO-PO BAR CRUISE, 2009 EDITION.
-
10:00pmWhen the “powers-that-be” harrumphed themselves into a shlump over the inaugural Fopo Bar Crawl, their sneering jeering and careering could’ve been mistaken for jealousy or a what a small lump of lumpenproles might have called ennui. (Wrongly.)
Reeling and stealing, a-flippin’ and a floppin’.
Yet pride be damned, here we are once again, one year later, prepared to retort with Fopoplectic snorts of our own.
So don’t be a schlub, get out of that tub and come be part of the hubbub club...
Without you, the 2nd Sometimes-cheezy Oft-times-sleazy Fo-po Bike and Bar's a no-go, joe.

(at the sandbox)Hitch up the trailer and grab the kids, we're going to the park by bike! We will travel to a few parks, the ride ending when our interest fades. Bring a picnic & we'll stop at any ice cream shops we happen to pass. We will want to cover some ground, so tag-along bikes, tandems, trailers, and biking kids that can hack some miles. Feel free to bring older kids: any aged kid that likes parks is welcome. Even though it's Fathers Day, Moms are also encouraged to attend ;)

(at the Gazebo)How many bikes can you harness together with inner tubes and pull a chariot? It's a lot of fun, and Sunday Parkways is the perfect place to try it out in Portland. I did this with friends in Vancouver BC Critical Mass rides in the late 90s and it was always a hit. Come with your bike, prepared to try something new. 3:00pmWhat if...Portland built all the freeways it planned? This ride will follow the routes of several highways that never made it off the drawing board, such as the fabled Mt. CANCELED Paul Tay, is stuck at home in Tulsa coping with the loss of two cyclists killed by a drunk driver. What Would Santa Demand? Christmas resched to last Friday in June? Public floggings of convicted bike thieves? Or maybe rename the City to Santaland? Whatever it is you think Santa desires, come dressed to impress, with a message on a home-made sign. Speech, free. But, please no overtly political speech against anyone named Sam. That'll cost AT LEAST 50 clams, the fine for disturbing the peace. Then, roll Downtown aimlessly, until group consensus finds Vic Alonzo's Cadillac Hummer, or one of the City's finest gentlemen's club, whichever's 1st.

You say you're vegan? We say PERFECT! This social is all about hemp ice cream (not that kind of hemp ice cream). Grab a scoop on your evening commute and while away a few moments with your cycling breth- and sistren over chilly confection.
