World Naked Bike Ride
Saturday, June 19, 9:00pm
Join us in the largest naked ride in North America, and quite possibly the world, as we gently protest against the fossil fuel dependence, and show the world a better, funner way. See http://www.worldnakedbikeride.org/ for more propaganda. The dress code is officially "as bare as you dare". Many changes this year, so read the "Your First Naked Ride" page even if you've done this before. Also see http://www.shift2bikes.org/wnbr/min.php for the countdown.

Daytime nude ride - The daytime nude ride is Saturday, June 12. It starts at the Joan of Arc statue, 39th and Glisan, at 2. Please put it on the calendar. Is last year's contact person doing it again?
- Pete (2010-04-14 21:30:58)
WNBR - A lot of people weren't so happy with getting stuck in Old Town last year. I wasn't really one of them but then, lacking boobs, I wasn't getting ogled. Has anyone come up with a clever solution to this?
- Shift (2010-04-15 12:51:45)
Ogled in Old Town - We will be spending less time in that area and explore some new frontiers. The cops will be corking for us again and will help get us through there. Last years ride looped back on itself unintentionally causing that stoppage. Not this year.
- Cheri (2010-04-17 22:13:00)
Theme? - Is there a theme for this years ride? Like last years theme was 'Where the Wild Things Are'. I personally would love the same theme :)
- Matt (2010-04-21 9:33:16)
Date - The naked bike ride site says the event is on the 12th, but shift2bikes says its on the 19th. I trust this site but wanted to get some kind of verification- anyone have concrete details?
- Shift Calendar Crew (2010-04-23 11:49:49)
Re: Date - Our ride is on the 19th. The Police asked us to change the date because the Rose Festival Grand Floral Parade is on the 12th so all of Portland's traffic cops will start working at 2:00am that day. Having them also work past midnight for our ride just wouldn't work.
See http://www.shift2bikes.org/wiki/pedalpalooza:dance_party:rationale - Rick (2010-04-28 21:29:29)
Coat check - Will there be a coat check?
- Not A Drunk (2010-05-02 19:09:35)
Open container law and BYOB - You suggest bringing your own liquor - how does this square with Portland's law about open containers of alcohol?
- Shift (2010-05-02 23:21:46)
Theme - There will be a theme this year but it's not been decided on yet. We're all a bunch of wild things uh, naked wild thingsthat night, so if that's not the theme this year you can still put on a tail and grow some extra hair.
- Shift (2010-05-02 23:29:57)
Coat ChEck - At this time indications are that you will be able to check your clothes and return for them when were done with the ride. Then naked bike fun will be your only care.
- Chris (2010-05-07 14:34:07)
Eugene, OR Contingent - Is anyone here coming from, or know anyone coming from, Eugene. I'm trying to get a car-pool together.
- Rick (2010-05-11 20:45:54)
Location - Do we have a starting location yet?
- squareman (2010-05-12 22:08:41)
"New Frontiers" on the route? - You say that the old town ogling is out and that we'll cover new frontiers. How about we cover ground where people (and media) are least expecting us? Let's really cover new ground and throw people for a loop. WNBRs in the past have been great for the surprise they spring on people. Last years ride seemed lined with expectant spectators and camera crews.

Re: Starting Location - We have a location.
- Shift (2010-05-13 13:25:04)
RE: Eugene Contingent - I would recommend posting this to the Shift email list. You do that by going here: <https://lists.riseup.net/www/info/shift>
Craigslist may be a good option as well. - Cheri (2010-05-13 16:08:11)
Starting location - Where is the starting location?
- Doodster (2010-05-22 14:45:21)
Organizers! - Organizing wild folks!? What's up with all the confusion this year? 12, 13, 19th. Location? I hope it doesn't fall apart. Last year was incredible! I was hoping we could beat that attendance record. I think I'll start a Facebook page, since that's what everyone seems to be using. Also, who do I contact this year for volunteering? Just one more thing... the Westboro Baptist Church will be here in Portland spewing their vile hatred for gays and military on June 3rd at 7:00am in front of Grant High School. Practice run, anyone???

Hmm - Riding around a school naked at 7 am? What could possibly go wrong?
- Rick (2010-05-23 22:40:24)
Starting Location - I'm a little perplexed. Where is the starting location?
- Shift (2010-05-23 22:47:08)
Re: Starting Location - We haven't announced the starting location yet.
Do you need to know tonight? Tomorrow?
We have a location. If you want to know more and better yet if you want to volunteer help out with the ride then show up here: <http://bikeportland.org/2010/05/21/join-us-to-get-your-shift-together/>

Body paint? - I have posted this ride on another site as a FYI and I had someone contact me who wants to do body painting - she's a professional - for free/donation to cover supply costs. Is there someone I should put her in touch with or should I tell her to just show up? How early should she get there? I can't find any contact infor on here for someone to ask. thanks!
- Shift (2010-05-24 15:22:03)
Re: Body Paint - Yes, yes we need someone to do body paint. Thanks so much! Tell her to send a message here <http://shift2bikes.org/contacts/> to Information and I'll put her in touch with the right person.
- Specialfxlady (2010-05-25 0:04:15)
Re: Body Paint - Okay - will do! Awesome. See you on the streets.
FX - Cheri (2010-05-26 21:14:22)
Starting location - I just sort of think it daunting for it to be this close and shift to withhold the starting location. Some people need to plan where they're going to crash for the night after the ride. I'd love to go to a meeting but they always seem to fall on nights I have class unfortunately. By the way, Your link for where to meet is broken. Thought I'd let you know.
- Shift (2010-05-27 23:20:11)
Re: Starting Location - The starting location is at 1150 SE Water Ave. It's a whole city block just east of the Eastbank Esplanade by the Vera Katz statue. Please come inside, check your stuff and enjoy the festivities before the ride starts. We gather at 9, ride at 10 and party at midnight. See you there!
- Cheri (2010-05-28 10:49:07)
Re: Starting location - Thank you! See you on the street.
- Specialfxlady (2010-06-04 23:21:20)
Re: Body Paint - Hi - the lady I know who wants to do the body paint hasn't heard back from anyone about when/where she needs to set up. Did you get her message? I want to update the sites where I'm promoting the ride so people can try and make appointments with her or at the very least know that she's there.
Thanks! - Kernel (2010-06-05 2:37:04)
Day Rides (2 of 'em) - There are two naked day-time rides this year!!
The first one is on June 12th at 2:00, meeting at Joan of Arc.
The other is on the 19th at 2:00, meeting in Irving Park.
See the details on the Pedalpalooza Calendar if you have questions. - Shift (2010-06-06 13:51:04)
Re: Body Paint - I did not hear from her through the above link but I now have an email address for the WNBR it is: wnbr
shift2bikes.org
Please have her email me there and we'll get all hooked up. Thanks!! - Specialfxlady (2010-06-07 9:44:14)
Re: Body Paint - Okay - I forwarded her the e-mail - thanks!
- Aaron (2010-06-10 0:23:16)
Home body painting - I'm thinking about painting up at home, then heading over to the ride. Last year, the self-painting area had some decent body paint. What store did the paint come from?
- Are See Cola (2010-06-14 10:43:22)
Painting, Gathering, SW - If there are people in SW that are headed over to the ride it would be nice to group before. Would be nice to paint and get painted before heading out. Have a pool also could take a dive before heading out to the ride. If anyone is interested I'll post if people would like to gather.
- Lindsey (2010-06-15 21:53:33)
The route - What will the route be this year, starting, ending? I'm new to Portland, the area, and this is my first race. I'm excited and would like to know the route and any other helpful hints! Thanks in advance!
- Pete (2010-06-15 23:29:23)
Hi Lindsey, - Welcome to town!
This is not actually a race, so you'd probably win if you knew where you were going, but you don't, so relax, take some clothes off, and enjoy a leisurely bicycle ride.
See you at 1150 SE Water Ave, Saturday, 9ish. This is the starting point and, in one of life's odd coincidences, the ending point. Have fun! - Winner Girl (2010-06-16 17:09:38)
Please Ride by Huber's on 3rd Avenue - We will be at Huber's on 3rd Avenue, drinking Spanish coffee's waiting for the riders to ride by. There will be a large group of us cheering on the bike riders. PLEASE go down 3rd avenue,(between Washington & Stark) so we can applaud all the participants! Party like a Naked Rider!
- Winner Boy (2010-06-17 10:29:04)
Please Get Naked and Ride Instead of Drinking at Huber's - We will be naked and riding our bikes somewhere downtown, drinking beer and dodging hootin' and hollerin' bar patrons. There will be a large group of us cheering on ourselves. PLEASE get our of your consumer mindset and choose to participate in something wonderful. Party like a Naked Rider!
- Skipper's Girl (2010-06-17 19:03:29)
I lost my tassles! - Help! I want to do the ride but I lost my tassles. My handle bar tassles that is. If I do the ride, can we please go by Huber's and cheer on the side walk folk drinking Spanish Coffees that are hootin and hollerin? It don't matter.
- Winner Girl (2010-06-17 21:24:05)
Party Like A Naked Rider! - I see a great time on Saturday night! Good luck to all the naked riders, and good luck to all the Huber's Spanish Coffee drinkers. May they meet on 3rd Avenue! The drinkers will be cheering on the bikers. Party like a Naked Rider!
- dr.Dew (2010-06-19 12:00:21)
rained out? - sooooo. im no fair weather biker but. rain check? whats the protocol on this?
- Tall Steve (2010-06-19 13:56:51)
We ride tonight, no matter what. - The starting point was rented for tonight. The parade permit is for tonight. All ride planning has been for tonight. The police will be blocking traffic for us tonight. All volunteers volunteered to work tonight. Other Pedalpalooza rides were planned around it being tonight. The afterparties are all tonight.
It has never rained on the big naked ride. Historically, the ride conditions are dry (sometimes with puddles), around 60 degrees, with light winds.
Tonight's forecast says there's a chance of showers in the early evening, ending about the time the ride starts. The temperature will be 58 degrees with light wind. So despite the generally crappy weather this spring, the ride conditions will be very close to normal. - Steve (2010-06-19 15:49:52)
Is there a map of the route?? - Where do they ride thru Portland?
- Ninja Totoro (2010-06-19 16:00:46)
Where are we heading first??? - Could anyone tell me if we will start going across Hawthorne bridge from ODOT parking lots first, or are we heading into SE neighborhoods first??? I would like to join after I get out of work at 10 in downtown. Thank you so much!
- winner girl (2010-06-19 16:22:09)

whats the vibe like for a newbie going alone? - anyone who's done it in the past, whats the vibe like for a newbie unable to talk any friends into joining? looking forward to experience of mass ride, hesitant to go alone.
- Brook (2010-06-19 20:33:58)
newbie vibe - no worries about being a newbie...it's likely you would get separated from your friends anyway...everyone is cool and you are likely to meet some new friends, so just do it and think about it later...
- squareman (2010-06-20 9:01:56)
THANK YOU! - To all the volunteers, thank you! To all the organizers, thank you thank you! This year's route was perfect. It covered all kinds of new ground. For the most part, the only bottlenecks were on quiet residential streets (W Burnside excepted).
- Roberto Olivero (2010-06-20 12:14:07)
