SUMMARY:🥒🎾 Let’s play pickleball! Crazy Rules\, then Glow-in-the-Dark
CONTACT:Al S.
DESCRIPTION:Sign up sheet posted - see description\n2nd Annual Pickleball
Ride\n\nBring your best self and your most creative trash talk\, big
 swings\, even bigger misses\, smiles\, and high-fives.\n\nWe can fit a max
of 16 people onto 4 courts. Please sign up here and let me know if you
can bring some of the listed items:\n
https://tinyurl.com/PPDXpickleball\n\nLast year we started by getting
playing at Mount Tabor tennis courts under daylight\, then rode to
Laurelhurst and had lots of fun playing in the dark with portable lighting
set up.\n\nWe’ll do the same this year\, except we’ll add a twist to the
daylight session: Crazy Rules!\nI have a list of rules\, and we’ll
introduce a rule every 10 minutes\; this way everyone gets to play a bit
and get used to the rule before learning the next one.\n\nExamples:\n- The
“no volley zone” (NVZ)\, also known as the “kitchen\,” is still NVZ if
you use your normal paddle\, buuut … if you use a kitchen utensil or
frying pan\, you CAN volley in the kitchen. Using a cookie sheet is highly
encouraged\, and is worth 2 points if you hit a winning drop shot while
yelling\, “Baker’s Dozen!” Do you know how loud it gets when a cookie
sheet hits a pickleball? I don’t\, and can’t wait to find out.\n- Bicycles
form the net. If you “call it”\, then hit a basket\, handlebars\, or bike
seat with the ball\, your team wins the point outright\; if you hit a
ball into a basket and it stays in\, that makes it a basket ball\, hence 2
points.\n- “Body parts rules” - you’ll need to show up to find out what
these two hilarious rules are. What happens on the pickleball court …
stays on the court.\n- And other rules for max silliness and lots of
laughs.\n\nI’ll bring line markers\, a few paddles\, and pickleballs like
last year\, but pls bring your own paddle if you have one.\n\nEven better:
please bring KITCHEN utensils\, cookie sheets\, pots\, and pans that can
withstand pickleball hits.\n\nPlease show up early to help set up our
courts (I can’t set up everything quickly enough by myself). I’ll be at
the courts at about 6 pm. Thanks to everyone who helped last year!\n\nAt
Tabor we’ll start packing up a bit before sundown\, then ride to
Laurelhurst and set up glow-in-the-dark courts. We should have two
portable nets for the two “lines only” courts\, plus the two courts that
have permanent nets.\n\nNighttime play will follow normal pickleball
rules.\n\nFor visibility\, I’ll have lots of lights like last year: LED
paddles\, LED pickleballs\, glow bracelets\, EL wire to mark the net\, UV
reactive tape and UV lamps to make court lines glow\, and other lights
including a few disco lights.\n\nAnd probably some music\, yeah
 music.\nMeet at 6\, play at 6:45\, ride\, play again\nEnds at Laurelhurst
